Michigan State's track and field team made quite the impression at the Raleigh Relays, showcasing both talent and determination across a weekend packed with personal bests and standout performances.
Thursday Highlights
Kicking off the action, Tess Roman delivered a strong showing in the women's javelin, securing fifth place with a throw of 48.00m. It was her second attempt that propelled her into the final, though she couldn’t extend her mark further.
On the track, the men's 1500m saw Tim Cherry shine brightly. Clocking in at 3:40.75, Cherry notched the third-fastest time in Michigan State history, finishing seventh overall. Joining him in personal triumphs were Owen Gilbert (3:47.79), Brady McArdle (3:48.16), and Michael Hegarty (3:51.23), each setting new personal records.
Riley Hough made his return in the men’s 5000m, finishing 19th in a fiercely competitive field with a commendable time of 13:53.37.
Friday Highlights
Friday belonged to the pole vaulters. Adam Blue soared to new heights in the invitational, clearing 5.27m for a personal best and the sixth-best mark in Spartan history. Landon Cosby took first in the open pole vault, achieving a season-best of 4.97m.
On the track, Kate Stewart-Barnett competed fiercely in the 1500m, finishing 18th with a time of 4:17.85. Meanwhile, Lexy Wilson sprinted to a season-best 54.27 in the 400m, earning her a 10th-place finish.
Saturday Highlights
Stewart-Barnett returned on Saturday, delivering a solid performance in the 800m with a time of 2:07.15, marking the sixth-fastest in school history. Sydnee Sinn also impressed, finishing 19th with a personal best of 2:08.29.
In the men's 800m, Noah Sage led the Spartans with a time of 1:52.81, while Alex Yon celebrated a personal best, clocking in at 1:54.12.
With these performances under their belt, Michigan State now sets its sights on hosting the Spartan Invitational in East Lansing, ready to continue their impressive season on home turf.
