Michigan State is dipping into the Midwest talent pool once again, this time targeting a rising tight end prospect with serious upside. Tre Oiler, a 6-foot-6, 220-pound athlete out of Arrowhead High School in Hartland, Wisconsin, announced on Tuesday that he’s received a scholarship offer from the Spartans.
Oiler, a member of the 2027 recruiting class, may not carry a star rating yet, but that hasn’t slowed down his momentum on the recruiting trail. Michigan State joins a growing list of Power Five programs showing early interest in the towering tight end. Florida, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa State, and Virginia Tech have already extended offers, signaling that Oiler’s stock is climbing fast.
The Spartans’ offer came via tight ends coach Brian Wozniak, a key figure in Michigan State’s recruiting efforts. Wozniak’s background and ties to the region make him a natural fit for identifying and connecting with Midwest prospects like Oiler. And at 6'6", Oiler fits the mold of the modern tight end - long, athletic, and versatile enough to make an impact in both the passing game and as a blocker.
While it’s still early in the 2027 cycle, Michigan State’s move to get in on Oiler now speaks to their confidence in his potential. Unrated prospects don’t stay under the radar for long when they start drawing offers from programs across multiple conferences, especially ones with the pedigree of Florida and Wisconsin.
For the Spartans, this is about building for the future - identifying talent before the rankings catch up. And for Oiler, the attention he’s receiving is a clear indicator that coaches see something special in his frame, athleticism, and upside. If he continues to develop, expect his name to become a regular fixture in recruiting conversations over the next couple of years.
