Big Ten Indoor Track & Field Championships: Michigan State's Relay Teams and Record-Breakers Shine
In the heart of Indianapolis at the Big Ten Indoor Track & Field Championships, Michigan State's distance medley relay teams delivered performances that put them on the scoreboard and in the spotlight.
The women's distance medley relay squad, featuring Rachel Forsyth (1200m), Lexy Wilson (400m), Sarah Forsyth (800m), and Olivia Millen (1600m), showcased their season's best effort to secure an eighth-place finish with a time of 11:03.03. Their determination and synergy were evident as they battled through a competitive field.
On the men's side, the Spartans also clinched eighth place, thanks to the efforts of Timothy Cherry (1200m), Noah Sage (400m), Matthew Schroff (800m), and Andrew Nolan (1600m). Clocking in at 9:43.69, the team ensured Michigan State's presence on the scoreboard, demonstrating grit and teamwork.
Dylan Terryberry made waves in the heptathlon, positioning himself for a potential podium finish. After four events, he sits in seventh place with 3,011 points.
Terryberry kicked off his day with a personal best in the 60m, clocking 7.05 seconds to earn 865 points. His long jump performance saw him reach 6.92m, securing ninth place and 795 points.
In the shot put, he added 620 points with a ninth-place finish (12.23m). He capped off the day with another personal best in the high jump (1.92m), finishing fifth for 731 points.
Alexander Yon made headlines by breaking a school record in the men's 600m prelims. His time of 1:18.63 surpassed the previous record set by Alex Wiater in 2017. Despite not advancing to the finals, Yon's achievement marked a significant milestone for the Spartans.
In the women's pentathlon, Tess Roman delivered a solid performance, finishing 11th with 3,749 points. Meanwhile, in the women's 5000m, Sophia Lucki led the Spartans with a time of 16:32.17, securing 20th place, closely followed by Allison Cornell, who achieved a personal best with 16:33.50, finishing 21st.
As the championships continue, Friday promises more action, starting with the heptathlon 60m hurdles at 11:30 a.m. Elle Adrian will compete in the women's weight throw, while field events, including both long jumps and the women's high jump, take center stage. The day will conclude with Logan Allen in the men's 60m hurdles prelims.
The Spartans have set the stage for an exciting continuation of the Big Ten Championships, with athletes ready to push their limits and leave their mark.
