Michigan State now has the full map for its 2026-27 Big Ten run, and the league handed the Spartans a 20-game slate that mixes the usual heavyweight matchups with a few scheduling quirks.
The Big Ten released the conference schedule Wednesday, and Michigan State’s path includes two dates with Michigan, home-and-home sets against Maryland and Nebraska, and a batch of one-off home games that keep several familiar arenas off the itinerary.
The Spartans open league play Dec. 2 against Minnesota, then jump into a conference schedule that stretches across the country. Michigan State will face Michigan, Maryland and Nebraska twice each, while meeting the other 14 Big Ten teams once.
The Michigan games land late and matter plenty on the calendar. Michigan State goes to Ann Arbor on Feb. 13 and then gets the Wolverines back at the Breslin Center on Feb.
- That home date sits in the final stretch of the regular season, with a trip to Northwestern on March 2 and the season finale at Wisconsin on March 6.
Maryland and Nebraska round out the Spartans’ home-and-home opponents. Michigan State visits Maryland on Dec. 9 and hosts the Terrapins on Feb.
- The Nebraska games come Jan. 2 in Lincoln and Feb. 20 in East Lansing.
One of the more notable parts of the slate is where Michigan State does not have to go. The Spartans will host Minnesota, Washington, Oregon, Penn State, Purdue, Rutgers and Wisconsin at the Breslin Center, avoiding road trips to some of the conference’s most recognizable buildings, including Mackey Arena and the Kohl Center. Oregon and Washington both make the trip to East Lansing, rather than forcing Michigan State out to the West Coast.
Still, there’s no shortage of difficult travel. Michigan State has a two-game West Coast swing in January, with UCLA on Jan. 9 and USC on Jan.
- The Spartans also hit Ohio State on Jan.
23, Michigan on Feb. 13 and Iowa on Feb. 16.
February is especially busy. Michigan State’s road game at Michigan is followed by a home date with Nebraska and then another road test at Iowa, giving the Spartans a demanding late-winter stretch.
