Michigan State Linked to Top-50 EDGE as Official Visit Confirmed

Michigan State football aims to secure top in-state talent as four-star edge rusher Myles Smith schedules an official visit, highlighting coach Pat Fitzgeralds strategic recruiting push.

As spring practices approach, Michigan State's head coach, Pat Fitzgerald, is making strategic moves to focus on his current roster while also laying the groundwork for future success. He's been busy setting up summer official visits, ensuring that his top prospects have their sights set on East Lansing.

Fitzgerald's proactive approach in organizing these visits is crucial, especially as he balances recruiting for the 2027 class. By securing dates early, he’s positioning Michigan State as a top destination for elite talent. Starting at the end of May, some big-time recruits will be visiting, with more announcements expected soon.

A standout visitor on the schedule is Myles Smith, a four-star edge rusher from Farmington, Michigan. Smith has confirmed his official visit to Michigan State on May 29, followed by a visit to Kentucky on June 12, according to recruiting expert Allen Trieu.

Smith is highly sought after, ranked as the No. 47 recruit nationally and the No. 2 prospect from Michigan by Rivals. Having Michigan State as his first visit speaks volumes about the program's appeal.

Fitzgerald's strategy for official visits is certainly noteworthy. He’s targeting some of the top talent from Michigan, including three recruits ranked in the top 65.

Dakota Guerrant is also on his radar, though his leanings remain uncertain. This focus on in-state talent underscores Fitzgerald's commitment to building a strong foundation.

While previous coach Mel Tucker aimed high but often missed, Fitzgerald has the opportunity to change that narrative. This is his first full recruiting class, and his efforts before any major program success are promising. As the Spartans work towards reclaiming their status as contenders, the future in East Lansing looks optimistic.
