Antonio Pemberton has made his choice, and Michigan State is the winner.
The No. 20-ranked prospect in the 2027 class announced live on the CBS Sports YouTube channel that he is committing to the Spartans, giving Tom Izzo his first pledge in the class. The 6-foot-1, 165-pound guard from Masters Academy International arrives with plenty of buzz as one of the top point guards in the cycle.
Pemberton’s list of suitors was a serious one. Michigan State beat out Marquette, Boston College, Creighton, Tennessee, UCLA, Ohio State and Kansas for his commitment, after a recruitment that drew more than 30 Division I offers.
Before settling on the Spartans, Pemberton took visits to Michigan State, Creighton, Kansas and Tennessee. In the end, he chose the program that now opens its 2027 class with one of the country’s premier lead guards.
247Sports Director of Scouting Adam Finkelstein described Pemberton as a guard built to score, noting that he averaged 24 points per game during the 3SSB season while also adding 4.3 assists. Finkelstein wrote that Pemberton “plays with a distinct scoring mentality that requires a significant amount of freedom and volume.”
That offensive package is all over the report. Finkelstein highlighted Pemberton’s pull-up game from both mid-range and 3-point range, his lift on the release, the natural fade that helps him create space, and his soft touch around the rim. He also pointed to Pemberton’s handle, his ability to string moves together, his change-of-pace work, and his knack for getting to the free-throw line, where he shot 79% on 7 attempts per game.
The scouting report also makes clear that the next step is refinement. Finkelstein said Pemberton will need to make quicker decisions, get off the ball at times, become more comfortable shooting off the catch and use his gravity to create for others more often, though he has “shown plenty of flashes of being a talented passer when he wants to be.”
Defensively, Pemberton brings activity and competitiveness. Finkelstein said he moves his feet well, uses his hands actively and has a good early understanding of verticality, while also noting that his lack of size could create some matchup issues at the next level. Even so, Finkelstein emphasized that Pemberton’s fire and intensity help separate him, saying those traits usually fuel him rather than work against him.

Michigan State is set to welcome a familiar test back to East Lansing this weekend, as the womens golf team hosts the 41st Mary Fossum Invitational at Forest Akers West Golf Course beginning Sunday.
