Michigan State is jumping into a crowded race for one of the top point guards in the 2027 class, and the Spartans are going to have to fight off some heavy hitters to land him.
The target is Antonio Pemberton, a four-star guard who received an official offer from Michigan State on Sunday. By the next day, the attention had already widened, with UCLA and Kansas both reaching out as well. That kind of early response makes the road ahead clear: if the Spartans want Pemberton, they may need to outlast a blue blood or two.
Pemberton is ranked No. 35 overall in the 2027 class by 247Sports. He’s also listed as the top player in Massachusetts and the No. 9 point guard nationally.
The offer sheet is already deep. Pemberton holds 20 offers, with Utah, Iowa, Auburn, Georgia Tech, Maryand, and Notre Dame among the schools involved.
His stock has climbed fast this summer thanks to strong showings at multiple showcases. Playing for Mass Rivals, he has averaged 22 points per game in the 3Stripes Select Basketball Circuit.
A product of The Master’s Academy International, Pemberton has earned comparisons to Jalen Brunson and Ben Gordon because of the way he scores efficiently and knocks down tough shots. He also brings a passing touch, consistently looking to get teammates involved.
Michigan State’s interest fits the pattern. Tom Izzo and his staff have been active with elite guards in the 2027 group lately, also extending offers to Jaxson Davis and Joshua Tyson in recent weeks.
