Michigan State Extends Record Streak with East Region Seed Boost

The Spartans continue their historic NCAA streak with a No. 3 seed, gearing up for a first-round clash against North Dakota State.

Michigan State Spartans are headed to their 28th consecutive NCAA Tournament, a streak that stands as the longest in Big Ten history and ties for the longest in NCAA history. This impressive run continues under the guidance of Coach Tom Izzo, who has been the architect of this consistency, marking his own record of 28 straight tournament appearances.

The Spartans, boasting a 25-7 record this season, have secured a No. 3 seed and are set to face off against the No. 14 seed North Dakota State Bison. The matchup will take place at the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York. This first-round clash is a fresh encounter, as these two teams have never met on the court before.

North Dakota State comes in strong, having clinched both the Summit League regular season and tournament titles, capping it off with a victory over North Dakota in the championship game.

For Michigan State, this marks their 39th appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Spartans have an impressive tournament record of 76-37, with 10 trips to the Final Four and two national championships in 1979 and 2000. Their .673 winning percentage in the tournament ranks ninth all-time, while their 73 victories place them sixth in NCAA history.

The Spartans' journey, should they advance, will continue in the East Region, with games scheduled for March 27 and 29 at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. The ultimate goal is a spot in the 2026 Final Four at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, set for April 4 and 6.

As the Spartans prepare for their opener against the Bison, fans can expect the same tenacity and skill that has defined Michigan State basketball for decades. With a storied past and a promising present, the Spartans are once again poised to make a deep run in March Madness.
