EAST LANSING, Mich. - As the Michigan State Spartans gear up for the Big Ten Indoor Track & Field Championships, they showcased their prowess at the Silverston Invitational and the Alex Wilson Invitational over the weekend. The Spartans clinched five event titles, setting the stage for an exciting championship run.
Silverston Invitational | Feb. 20 | Ann Arbor, Mich.
Friday was a day of triumph for the Spartans in Ann Arbor, with three first-place finishes lighting up the event. The men's shot put saw Dillon Morlock deliver a standout performance, launching a throw of 19.62m.
This remarkable feat ranks as the second-best in Michigan State history. Not far behind, his brother Colby Morlock secured second place with a personal-best throw of 18.97m, earning him the fifth spot in the school's all-time rankings.
The Spartans' record, held by All-American Antonio James since 2014, stands at 19.93m.
Rylan Finstrom dominated the women's shot put with a winning throw of 15.67m. Meanwhile, Dalton DeBeau added to the Spartans’ glory with a victory in the men's shot put, achieving a throw of 20.08m, which ranks ninth all-time at MSU.
Margaret Jones also put up a strong performance in the women's weight throw, securing second place with a throw of 16.60m.
Alex Wilson Invitational | Feb. 21 | South Bend, Ind.
The Spartans continued their winning ways in South Bend. Alex Yon captured the men's 600m title, clocking in at 1:19.67, a personal best and the eighth-best time in Michigan State history.
Noah Sage was in fine form, taking first place in the 400m with a season-best time of 47.47. The men's distance medley relay team, featuring Tim Cherry, Sage, Brady McArdle, and Andrew Nolan, finished 10th with a time of 9:40.01, marking the sixth-best in Spartan history.
Matthew Schroff impressed in the mile, achieving a personal best of 4:07.53 to finish fifth. On the women's side, Taylor Ewert ran a season-best 4:46.60 in the mile to secure fourth place, while Mia Rogan set a personal record in the 800m with a time of 2:10.68, finishing fourth.
With these performances, Michigan State heads to the 2026 Big Ten Indoor Track & Field Championships in Indianapolis from Feb. 26-28, ready to make their mark at the Indiana Farm Bureau Fall Creek Pavilion.
