Happy Saturday, TOC Nation. Week Zero of the 2026 college football season is here, but for Michigan State fans, this is also the last Spartan-free weekend until Halloween. If you’re the betting type, the numbers on MSU are already out there, and FanDuel’s lines paint a pretty clear picture of what kind of season the books expect.
The opener against Toledo is the one spot where Michigan State starts as the favorite. The spread opened at -11.5 and has moved to -10.5.
That’s a much smaller cushion than last year’s opener against Western Michigan, when Sparty was laying 20.5 points. The total for the game sits at 49.5.
Beyond Game 1, the outlook gets a lot less friendly. FanDuel has Michigan State’s season win total at 4.5, with the under priced as the heavy favorite at -188. In other words, the books are not expecting a long run of green lights.
The Big Ten title odds tell the same story. MSU is sitting at +40,000, tied for last with Maryland, Purdue, and Rutgers. At the top of that market, Ohio State leads the way at +180, followed by Oregon at +270 and Indiana at +300.
If you want to dream even bigger, the national championship number is even longer. Michigan State is listed at +125,000 to win it all, with 47 FBS teams holding better odds and every other team tied with the Spartans.
Ohio State is the favorite at +550, Notre Dame is next at +600, and Oregon is right behind at +750. MSU will face two of those three favorites this season.
The Heisman market doesn’t offer much encouragement either. Michigan State quarterback Alessio Milivojevic is on the board at +50,000, which is the lowest odds given to any player.
A few former Spartans are higher up the list: QBs Aidan Chiles (Northwestern) and Katin Houser (Illinois) are both +22,500, WR Nick Marsh (Indiana) is +12,500, and QB Sam Leavitt (LSU) is at +2,500, which rounds out the top ten. The top three Heisman favorites are Notre Dame QB CJ Carr at +700, Texas QB Arch Manning at +850, and Miami QB Darian Mensah at +950.
