Michigan State’s latest coaching change has done little to shake Jordan Hall.
That alone makes him unusual in this era of roster churn. Hall arrived in East Lansing as a four-star prospect from IMG Academy in Florida, recruited by Mel Tucker.
He stayed when Jonathan Smith took over before the 2024 season, and now he is still there as Pat Fitzgerald works through his first three games at MSU. Hall has become the most dominant player on the field, and he’s doing it while carrying a kind of continuity that’s been hard to find in the program’s recent history.
Since Mark Dantonio retired and through Nick Marsh’s commitment, Michigan State has signed 15 four-star prospects. Hall is the only one expected to finish his career in green and white. In a stretch when so many high-end recruits have come and gone, he stands out as the exception.
For a better sense of why, Spartan Tailgate spoke with Hall’s mother, Cyreeta Hall, who has also been publicly supportive of Fitzgerald and the culture he’s trying to build.
Cyreeta said her respect for Fitzgerald comes from what she’s seen up close. “I have a tremendous amount of respect for him,” Cyreeta said. “From what I’ve observed, he leads with passion, integrity, and a genuine love for his players that goes beyond football.”
She added, “You can tell that he cares about developing young men, not just athletes. The energy, accountability, and belief he brings are noticeable, and I respect the way he carries himself as both a coach and leader.”
For Cyreeta, the signs of a different atmosphere are easy to spot, even in the small moments. “For me, it's in the little things I observe - the way he answers reporters, how he carries himself on the sideline, and yes, even how he responds to the refs!”
she detailed.
She doesn’t buy the idea that the intensity is an act. “Some might say that it might just be 'part of a show' but I highly doubt it.
That kind of passion and authenticity is hard to turn on and off,” she explained. “What I see is someone who genuinely cares, competes, and stands up for his players - as a mom, I notice those things.”
That mindset helps explain why Hall has stayed put through three coaching staffs. Cyreeta described her son as someone who doesn’t walk away once he’s committed.
“Jordan is loyal. Once he gives his heart and his word to something, he doesn't walk away when things get hard,” Cyreeta explained.
“MSU is family to him. He committed to the school, the program, his teammates, and everything that comes with wearing that Spartan uniform.
My son is invested wholeheartedly, and through every change, one thing has remained the same: Jordan believes in Michigan State, and he believes in finishing what he started.”
That loyalty has already turned Hall into something of a symbol for the post-Dantonio era at Michigan State. Cyreeta said that means a lot to her.
“It makes me incredibly proud,” Cyreeta said of Jordan's legacy. “Even more than what Jordan may leave behind on the football field, I'm proud of the man he's become.”
She also framed it as the result of a long family effort. “As a single mom, I raised him - along with my incredibly large and supportive village - and gave him the best tools I could, prayed over him, and hoped that I got a few things right along the way.
Jordan has exceeded every expectation I've ever had - not just as a football player, but as a son and a man! If this is his legacy at MSU, my heart is full - and I might take just a tiny bit of the credit,” she said with a laugh.
