Indigo Diaz, a former standout at Michigan State, is making waves on the international stage, representing Team Canada in the World Baseball Classic. With Canada clinching a 3-1 record in Pool A, Diaz played a crucial role in their historic advancement to the quarterfinals for the first time.

In Canada's commanding 8-2 victory over Colombia, Diaz took the mound for an inning, showcasing his skills once again in the 7-2 win against Cuba. Now, the stage is set for a thrilling quarterfinal matchup against Team USA on Friday, March 13, at Daikin Park in Houston, Texas.

Fans can catch all the action live on FOX at 8 p.m. ET.

Hailing from Vancouver, British Columbia, Diaz is no stranger to the international spotlight, having also played for Team Canada in the 2023 WBC. His journey in professional baseball began when the Atlanta Braves selected him in the 27th round of the 2019 draft.

After two seasons with the Braves, Diaz was traded to the New York Yankees in 2023, where he spent three seasons, primarily with their AA-affiliate, the Somerset Patriots. In December 2025, Diaz signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks as a free agent.

During his time at Michigan State in 2019, Diaz made a significant impact on the mound. Transitioning to the role of closer partway through the season, he led the team with seven saves, tying for eighth in the Big Ten regular-season stats.

His performance also placed him ninth on the Spartans' single-season saves list. Over 44 innings, he struck out 51 batters, finishing the season with 25 appearances.

Diaz's final stretch with the Spartans was nothing short of impressive. In his last 20 appearances, he struck out 31 batters, including several game-ending performances, highlighted by striking out the side against Notre Dame on April 9. Over 16 appearances, he recorded seven saves, two wins, and was part of two combined shutouts, maintaining a clean sheet in 16 of his 21 relief outings, including a remarkable run of 13 consecutive scoreless appearances.

With his strong track record and determination, Diaz continues to be a pivotal player to watch as Team Canada aims to make its mark in the WBC.
