UCLA fans can breathe a sigh of relief as the Bruins are set to continue playing their home games at the iconic Rose Bowl for the 2026 football season. This decision puts an end to the swirling rumors about a potential move to SoFi Stadium in Inglewood.
Mary Osako, UCLA's vice chancellor of strategic communications, confirmed the news, emphasizing the significance of game days to the Bruins community. "We know how much game day means to Bruins - to our students, alumni, and fans who plan their autumn around Saturdays together," she stated.
This announcement comes after a period of uncertainty marked by legal disputes. The city of Pasadena and the Rose Bowl Operating Company had previously taken legal action against UCLA amidst reports of the potential relocation.
The lawsuit highlighted concerns of a "profound betrayal of trust" and estimated possible damages to the city at around $1 billion. Pasadena officials pointed out the substantial $150 million investment made by taxpayers in stadium renovations.
As the Bruins gear up for the season, they do so under the leadership of new head coach Bob Chesney. He steps in following a challenging 3-9 season in 2025.
Quarterback Nico Iamaleava, who impressed with nearly 2,000 passing yards and 505 rushing yards last season, returns to lead the offense. Additionally, UCLA has bolstered its roster with 41 transfers, featuring the nation's No. 11 portal class.
The Bruins will kick off their season on September 5th against the University of California, Berkeley, rekindling an old Pac-12 rivalry as they enter their third season in the Big Ten. Fans can expect a thrilling season as UCLA looks to make its mark under new leadership and with a reenergized squad.
