Oregon is already digging into the next wave of recruiting, and one of the names on the board is four-star edge rusher Elijah Tillman.
Tillman, a 6-7, 210-pound defender from Loganville, Georgia, has started to draw serious attention as the 2028 cycle begins to take shape. He’s a consensus four-star prospect and is ranked as high as No. 152 in the class by Rivals. In a recent interview with Rivals’ Chad Simmons, Tillman said Oregon and Miami are among the schools he wants to visit, and he added that the group of programs in the mix is basically even right now.
The Ducks got involved with Tillman on April 30, 2026, according to 247Sports. Miami’s offer came earlier, on January 25, 2025.
For Oregon, the appeal is obvious. Tillman’s frame gives him the kind of edge size that can help right away, and there’s room for him to keep growing.
The Ducks already have five-star edge rusher Rashad Streets, three-star Achilles Reyna and three-star Josh Christensen committed at the position in the 2027 class, but the program is also bracing for current starters Matayo Uiagelelei and Teitum Tuioti to move on to the NFL Draft after the 2026 season. That opens the door for the next couple of recruiting classes to matter even more on the edge.
There’s also a geographic angle here. Oregon does not have a commitment from Georgia in its 2027 class, and the last player Dan Lanning landed from the state was Dayton Raiola in the 2026 class, who made his decision on February 4, 2026. A strong push for Tillman could help the Ducks get back into the Peach State in a meaningful way.
Miami, though, is not going away quietly. Former Oregon coach Mario Cristobal has made the Hurricanes a real force in recruiting, and Oregon fans know that well. Cristobal took Oregon recruiting to a different level before leading Miami to the National Championship game last season, and his program has been going head-to-head with the Ducks more often for blue-chip talent.
That competition has already shown up in this cycle. Miami flipped four-star cornerback Ai’King Hall from Oregon earlier in the 2027 cycle, and both programs were finalists for linebacker Jalaythan Mayfield before he picked Indiana. Oregon did land one head-to-head win over Miami when four-star offensive lineman Gus Corsair chose the Ducks over Vanderbilt and the Hurricanes.
Miami may not be a Big Ten opponent, but with Cristobal involved, the recruiting battles between these two programs have plenty of bite. Tillman looks like the latest one worth watching.
