Gunner Rivers is set to carry on a proud family tradition, committing to play football at N.C. State, just like his father, former NFL quarterback Philip Rivers. This decision marks a significant milestone in the young quarterback's burgeoning career.
Rivers, a four-star recruit from St. Michael Catholic School in Fairhope, Alabama, made his choice known on February 23, opting for the Wolfpack over powerhouse programs like Alabama and Auburn. Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 205 pounds, Rivers is already making waves with his impressive stats.
As a junior, he threw for 3,176 yards, racked up 46 touchdowns, and only five interceptions. These numbers have earned him the title of the sixth-ranked quarterback nationally and the top prospect in Alabama for the class of 2027, according to 247Sports.
Over his first three high school seasons, Rivers has amassed 10,200 passing yards, 111 touchdowns, and boasts a completion rate of 64.9%. These stats not only highlight his talent but also hint at the potential for an exciting college career.
His father, Philip Rivers, left an indelible mark at N.C. State, with his name etched in the Wolfpack’s Ring of Honor at Carter-Finley Stadium. Inducted in 2013, Philip's No. 17 jersey was retired after a stellar collegiate career that included being named the 2003 ACC Player of the Year and later becoming a four-time Pro Bowl selection in the NFL.
Gunner Rivers is poised to create his own legacy while honoring the family name, and fans are eager to see what he brings to the field at N.C. State.
