Miami’s latest five-star commitment is moving even faster toward Coral Gables.
A'Mir Sears, the South Florida two-way standout committed to the Hurricanes, is reportedly planning to enroll early and could arrive as soon as the 2027 spring semester. Registration opens on Dec.
- The move comes three months after Sears reclassified.
Sears, who attends Christopher Columbus High School, is located just about five miles from Miami’s campus in Coral Gables. He has been used on both sides of the ball as a wide receiver and defensive back, and he’s produced in both roles this season.
On offense, Sears has 18 catches for 273 yards and four touchdowns in seven games, according to MaxPreps. On defense, he has nine tackles, including six solo stops and three assists.
His biggest night came against No. 1 Bishop Gorman on Aug. 29, when Columbus pulled off a 33-28 upset. Sears was all over the game, picking off three passes and scoring two touchdowns.
The local product chose to stay home despite a long list of major offers. Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Florida State, LSU, Ohio State, Texas A&M, Oregon, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Nebraska were among the Power Four programs that pursued him.
After the reclassification, 247Sports Composite ranked Sears as the 11th-highest recruit, the best among listed athletes and the second from Florida.
All of that production came in 13 games played.
Sears has made it clear he does not want to simply be the next Hunter. He wants his own name, his own lane. He has also seen what it looks like when a local star stays home and becomes a face of the program, pointing to Hurricanes wide receiver Malachi Toney as an example.
Following his historic freshman season, the Liberty City native has become a model for South Florida youth. After Miami’s 52-23 win over Pitt on Saturday at Hard Rock Stadium, Toney spoke about what that kind of visibility means.
"It feels amazing," the 19-year-old said. "It teaches me to be a young adult. Knowing that I have to do right and make wise decisions because the influence I have on the youth is incredible."'
Sears was also in the building for Miami’s 43-35 win over Florida State on Oct. 17 at Hard Rock Stadium, along with several other five-star recruits, including wide receiver Brysen Wright and edge rusher Asher Ghioto, both currently in the 2028 class.

Miami Just Got A Big Recruiting Boost With One Huge Twist
A'mir Sears has already given Miami plenty to feel good about, and now the five-star athlete from Christopher Columbus High School has delivered another boost for the Hurricanes recruiting momentum. The local standout, who committed in July, has reclassified to the 2027 class and plans to enroll early at the University of Miami in January, adding another headline-grabbing name to a class that has stayed highly regarded on the national scene.
Sears is still making his mark on the prep stage, too, lining up as both a wide receiver and defensive back while continuing to put together a strong high school career. For Miami, the timing matters as much as the talent: the Hurricanes have kept their 2027 class among the countrys elite despite some recent movement, and Sears decision only adds to the buzz around what the program is building. Miami Looked Dangerous But One Problem Could Haunt Them At UNC
Miami left the Pittsburgh game with plenty to like on offense, especially through the air, and the win offered another reminder of how dangerous this group can be when the passing game is humming. The rushing attack was solid enough to keep the offense balanced, and the good news out of the night was that Miami came away without any notable injuries as it turned the page toward North Carolina.
The bigger question now is whether that formula will hold up against a stronger opponent. Even after a productive showing, concerns about Miamis pass rush and pass defense linger, and those are the areas most likely to be tested in Chapel Hill. Against a tougher lineup, the Hurricanes may need more than offensive rhythm to keep control of the game. [Read more 🡒]
Miami Rolled Pitt But One Concern Still Stood Out
Miami put on a throwback showcase against Pitt, celebrating the 2001 national championship team in old-school uniforms and backing it up with a 52-23 win that looked every bit as polished as the moment called for. Darian Mensah was sharp throughout, completing 31 of 37 passes for 387 yards and four touchdowns, while Malachi Toney delivered a night for the record book with 16 catches for 194 yards and three scores.
Still, even in a game that went so well from the scoreboard to the style points, the broader evaluation was more nuanced. The film review and Pro Football Focus grades pointed to plenty of strong individual performances and several notable plays, but they also left one area of concern standing out enough to linger after the celebration, a reminder that Miamis most convincing wins can still come with something to clean up.
