Miami Starts 2027 Push With In-Home Visit to Top Cornerback Prospect

Miami makes a strong early move in the race for elite 2027 cornerback Joshua Dobson with a key in-home visit.

The Miami Hurricanes aren’t wasting any time when it comes to building out their 2027 recruiting class - and they’re already swinging big.

One of the early names at the top of Miami’s board is Joshua Dobson, a five-star cornerback who’s already drawing national attention as one of the elite prospects in the country. The Hurricanes made their move recently, sending cornerbacks coach Zac Etheridge for an in-home visit with Dobson as the program looks to establish an early connection with one of the most sought-after recruits in the nation.

Dobson is no ordinary high school sophomore. According to 247Sports, he’s ranked as the No. 3 overall player in the 2027 class, the No. 2 cornerback, and the top prospect in the state of North Carolina. That kind of profile doesn’t come without serious attention - and Dobson’s offer list reads like a who’s who of college football powerhouses.

Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Texas A&M, and Ohio State are all firmly in the mix, along with Miami, and that’s just scratching the surface. The Hough High School standout has been one of the busiest young prospects this month, already making the rounds to some of the biggest programs in the country. He visited Auburn on January 10, then followed that up with a trip to Texas A&M this past weekend.

For Miami, getting in early with a player like Dobson is about more than just star-chasing - it’s about setting the tone for the kind of defensive identity the Hurricanes want to build in the coming years. With Etheridge leading the charge in the secondary, the Canes are clearly prioritizing elite talent on the back end, and Dobson fits that mold to a tee. He’s long, athletic, instinctive, and plays with the kind of confidence you want in a future lockdown corner.

The road to signing day in 2027 is still a long one, but Miami is making sure they’re in the conversation from the jump. And with Dobson, that conversation is already heating up.
