Miami Spring Practice Hints At Something Big

Miami Hurricanes gear up for a promising 2026 season, bolstered by key transfers and returning talent aiming for a College Football Playoff run.

The Miami Hurricanes are back on the practice field, gearing up for what promises to be an exciting 2026 season. With six spring sessions under their belt, they're laying the groundwork for another potential run at the College Football Playoff.

After a stellar 2025 season that saw them reach the National Championship Game, the Hurricanes look formidable on paper. Leading the charge is quarterback Darian Mensah, a transfer from Duke. Mensah's impressive stats-3,973 yards, 34 touchdowns, and a 66.8% completion rate-showcase his ability to make big plays happen.

Mensah won't be short on options, either. The Hurricanes' offense returns standout receiver Malachi Toney and powerhouse running back Mark Fletcher, both of whom surpassed 1,000 yards last season. Adding to the arsenal is Cooper Barkate, another 1,000-yard receiver making his way from Duke.

On the defensive side, Miami's bolstered its lineup with Missouri transfer Damon Wilson, who racked up 9.5 sacks in 2025. The Hurricanes are also nurturing a group of former five-star recruits on the defensive line, including Marquise Lightfoot, Justin Scott, and Armondo Blount. Their secondary remains rock-solid, returning the top four corners from last year, along with standout safety Bryce Fitzgerald.

Continuity is key, and Miami benefits from having both coordinators back for another year. Shannon Dawson continues to craft the offensive strategy, while Corey Hetherman builds on his second year as defensive coordinator.

As the Hurricanes hit the practice field, the excitement is palpable. Fans can catch a glimpse of the action and the promising talent through photos from Thursday's practice session.
