The Miami Hurricanes are making a serious push for one of the most electric playmakers in the 2027 recruiting cycle - five-star wide receiver Jamier Brown, currently committed to Ohio State.
Brown, a 5-foot-11, 185-pound dynamo out of Ohio, has been on Miami’s radar for some time. And while he’s been pledged to the Buckeyes since November 2024, the Hurricanes haven’t backed off. In fact, with the recent shake-up in Columbus, things are getting interesting.
Here’s the twist: Brian Hartline, the man largely credited with building Ohio State’s elite wide receiver pipeline, left the Buckeyes to take over as head coach at South Florida. That move sent shockwaves through the recruiting world, and Ohio State wasted no time naming Cortez Hankton as the new wide receivers coach in early January. Hankton brings solid credentials, but any coaching change this early in a player’s recruitment can open the door - and Miami is trying to walk right through it.
Brown’s connection to the Hurricanes runs deeper than just interest. He’s already visited Coral Gables and has built a solid relationship with Miami wide receivers coach Kevin Beard.
He was also on campus for a major recruiting weekend in September when the Hurricanes hosted the Florida Gators. That kind of face time matters, especially when you’re dealing with a player as high-profile - and as early in his recruitment - as Brown.
On the field, Brown is the kind of athlete that turns heads the moment he touches the ball. His junior season numbers tell the story: 73 receptions, 1,009 yards, and 10 touchdowns through the air.
But that’s just the beginning. Add in his return game, and he eclipsed 1,700 all-purpose yards with 16 total touchdowns.
That’s not just production - that’s game-breaking ability.
And then there’s the speed. Brown clocked a 10.36 in the 100 meters at the Adidas Track Nationals, a time that puts him in elite company even outside of football. That kind of track speed translates directly to the field - and makes him a nightmare for defensive backs.
Brown is also making a move ahead of his senior year, transferring from Wayne High School to Big Walnut in Ohio. It’s a change that could offer a fresh start and potentially a new offensive system to showcase his skills even further.
Miami’s pitch is clear: come to Coral Gables and be a focal point in a system that will get you the ball - early and often. They’re selling opportunity, explosiveness, and a chance to be a game-changer from Day 1.
But let’s not forget what Ohio State brings to the table. The Buckeyes have built a reputation as one of the best wide receiver factories in college football, consistently sending talent to the NFL and developing elite pass-catchers year after year. Even with Hartline gone, the infrastructure remains strong, and Hankton steps into a role with high expectations.
This is shaping up to be one of the more intriguing recruiting battles in the 2027 class. Brown is a blue-chip talent with the kind of skill set that can change the trajectory of an offense.
Miami’s making a run, but Ohio State isn’t going to give him up easily. Buckle up - this one could go the distance.
