Miami Quarterback Commits Are Giving Fans A Glimpse Of The Future

Miami's future stars shine with record-breaking performances, showcasing the depth and promise of their quarterback commitments.

Miami’s quarterback pipeline put on a show over the weekend, with three commitments piling up yardage and touchdowns while each one helped his team to a win. Israel Abrams, Knox Annis and CJ Cypher combined for 894 passing yards, nine passing touchdowns and 988 total yards, a clean sweep of productive Saturdays for the Hurricanes’ future at quarterback.

Abrams delivered the most complete outing in a tight finish. The four-star 2027 quarterback threw for 301 yards and a touchdown and added 67 rushing yards plus another score in Montini Catholic’s 28-24 win over St.

Francis in Illinois. Ranked No. 41 overall and No. 3 among quarterbacks in the 2027 Rivals Industry rankings, Abrams finished with 368 total yards in the four-point victory.

Annis kept the momentum going in Florida, where the 2028 quarterback carved up Beachside in Mandarin’s 46-7 win. He passed for 278 yards and three touchdowns, then chipped in 27 rushing yards and another score for 305 total yards and four touchdowns overall.

The biggest numbers came from Cypher, Miami’s 2029 commitment, who was nearly flawless in Carrollton’s 62-13 rout of Northgate in Georgia. He completed 17 of 21 passes for 315 yards and five touchdowns as Carrollton moved to 8-0.

Miami’s offensive commits didn’t stop with the quarterbacks. Five-star wide receiver Nick Lennear found the end zone twice in the first half of Miami Carol City’s 41-21 win over Miami Palmetto. Lennear is ranked No. 17 overall and No. 3 at wide receiver in the 2027 Rivals Industry rankings.

Running back Ty Keys added his own strong line, going for 140 rushing yards and a touchdown in Poplarville’s 48-6 victory over South Pike in Mississippi. Keys is rated No. 188 overall and No. 13 among running backs nationally.

There were more good days across the board for the class. Tight end Demarcus Deroche caught three passes for 42 yards and a touchdown in Cardinal Gibbons’ 51-18 win over Flanagan, while wide receiver Eli Woodard had four catches for 65 yards in Chaparral’s 47-7 victory over Murrieta Mesa.

Linebacker commitment Noah Glover turned in one of the more interesting performances of the weekend by contributing on offense. He lined up at wide receiver, caught three passes for 90 yards and scored a touchdown in Battlefield’s 21-20 win over Gainesville in Virginia.

Other Miami commitments also logged results across the weekend slate from Oct. 15-17.

Offensive linemen Sean Tatum and Tyler Ford were part of wins for John Carroll and Gainesville, respectively, while several defensive pledges either played key snaps, posted stats or had bye weeks. Ezekiel Ayangbile recorded three tackles in Langham Creek’s 59-13 win over Cypress Ridge, A.J.

Randle Jr. helped Garner beat South Garner 49-14, and A'mir Sears was part of Columbus’ 28-3 win over Miami Central.

A few others came out on the wrong side. Ai'King Hall and Sherrod Gourdine each saw their teams lose, while Jaylyn Jones finished with one tackle in McArthur’s 47-12 loss to Chaminade-Madonna. Andre Hyppolite and several other commitments were part of victories, and a few were off with bye weeks.

Miami Is 6-0 But One Midseason Concern Won't Go Away

Miami has kept rolling to a 6-0 start and stays firmly in the national conversation, but the unbeaten record has not erased every concern around this team. Even with quarterback Darian Mensah and receiver Malachi Toney delivering standout play, the Hurricanes have had to navigate injuries and uneven stretches that have kept the week-to-week picture from feeling entirely settled.

The biggest issue continues to hover around the offensive front and the running back group, both of which have been affected by injuries and in turn put more pressure on the rest of the offense. On defense, Miami has been sturdy against the run, but the challenge has been clear against mobile quarterbacks and in pass protection, which leaves a real midseason question for a team with bigger goals than just staying undefeated. Miamis Florida State Win Exposed Who Carried The Canes

Miamis win over Florida State offered a pretty clear snapshot of which Hurricanes players drove the result and which ones left some questions behind. The breakdown leaned on both eye test and Pro Football Focus grades, giving a fuller view of who stacked up in the matchup and who struggled to match the moment in a game that had plenty of physical play and a few injury concerns along the way.

The comparison also surfaced some interesting gaps between what stood out live and what showed up in the grading. A handful of players landed near the top of both lists, while others were viewed much less favorably once the film and the numbers were lined up, leaving a useful if imperfect picture of how Miami got through one of its biggest games and which performances helped carry the Canes. Miami Can End Notre Dame's Playoff Dream With One More Loss

Miamis rise to No. 1 in the latest AP Top 25 poll has only sharpened the spotlight on what comes next, and Notre Dame is walking into that matchup with plenty on the line. The Irish were already dealing with the sting of a close loss to BYU, a game that ended amid controversy and prompted the Atlantic Coast Conference to announce a review of the officiating at the finish.

Now the schedule has put Notre Dame in a spot where another loss could make its College Football Playoff path far more complicated, even with the expanded 12-team field. For Miami, it is another chance to reinforce its place at the top. For Notre Dame, it is the kind of game that can either steady a season or push the margin for error almost to nothing. [Read more 🡒]
