No. 7 Miami starts its 2026 season Friday night on the West Coast, and the opener comes with plenty of moving parts. Stanford already has a Week 0 win in the books, Miami is coming off a national championship game appearance, and the matchup lands as a late-night ACC road test at Stanford Stadium.
Kickoff is set for 9 p.m. ET, with ESPN carrying the game. Mike Monaco will handle play-by-play, Jordan Rodgers will be the analyst and Dana Boyle will be on the sideline.
The Hurricanes enter as a huge favorite. Consensus numbers have Miami around -24.5, though some books have pushed the spread to -25.5.
The moneyline sits in the neighborhood of -3000 to -4000 for Miami and +1300 to +1500 for Stanford, while the total is 47.5 points. Models give Miami roughly a 92-96% chance to win.
Conditions should be about as clean as you could ask for in Stanford, California. Forecasts call for 70-71 degrees at kickoff, with little to no rain expected and light winds.
Miami also owns the only previous meeting between the schools. That came last season in Coral Gables, where the Hurricanes rolled to a 42-7 win and took a 1-0 lead in the all-time series.
There are a few notable absences on both sides. Miami’s initial injury report lists DB Ja’Boree Antoine and TE Luka Gilbert as out, with Gilbert out for the season.
Stanford’s report is much longer, with 15 players listed as out, including OL Aidan Kilstrom, OL Nathan Mejia and OL Nick Fattig, along with multiple defensive backs and defensive linemen. OLB Gabe Kaminski is doubtful, while WR Caden High, WR Nico Brown, OLB Ernest Cooper, OL Simione Pale and OL Niki Prongos are questionable.
The biggest on-field storyline for Miami is Darian Mensah making his Hurricanes debut after transferring from Duke. He steps into a rebuilt offensive line that returns only one starter from last season, and that unit will be tested right away in a night game on the road. Stanford’s front is not described as elite, but it can still make life uncomfortable if Miami’s new pieces need time to settle in.
On the other side, Stanford quarterback Davis Warren arrives with momentum after throwing for 310 yards in the Cardinal’s 37-27 Week 0 win over Hawaii. He’ll face a much tougher challenge this time, with Miami’s pass rush set to feature Ahmad Moten Sr. and Damon Wilson II. If they can get home, Warren may not have nearly as much time to work.
The matchup on the perimeter also leans into Miami’s advantage. Stanford’s secondary is already banged up, and that puts more pressure on the Cardinal to handle Malachi Toney, who is being billed as the nation’s most dynamic receiver, as well as Cooper Barkate, Mensah’s former Duke target.
There’s also the simple matter of wear and tear. Stanford has already played once and is coming off a short week, while Miami arrives rested but has to deal with the cross-country trip for a Friday night opener.
A few players stand out as the ones to watch. For Miami, Mensah headlines the list at quarterback, followed by Toney, preseason All-American and ACC Rookie of the Year, Mark Fletcher Jr. after a career year and record CFP production, and the defensive tandem of Moten Sr. and Wilson II. For Stanford, Warren is the obvious focal point, and Micah Ford deserves attention after scoring three touchdowns and nearly reaching 100 yards against Hawaii.
