Miami May Have Landed Something Special In 2029 QB CJ Cypher

CJ Cypher, the Miami Hurricanes' 2029 QB commit, shines at the UA Next S7VNS, highlighting a strategic push to bolster the team's future quarterback prospects.

There was plenty of noise when CJ Cypher pledged to Miami a couple of weeks ago, and the class of 2029 quarterback from Carrollton, Georgia, only added to it over the weekend at IMG Academy. Cypher was the name everyone seemed to be talking about at the UA Next S7VNS tournament, where he walked away with MVP honors after leading Carrollton High to the championship.

The performance offered a clean answer to at least part of the early-commitment chatter. Miami had already identified Cypher as a target for Mario Cristobal and offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson, and the Hurricanes moved quickly to land him on June 24. At 6-foot-1 and 195 pounds, he now gives Miami quarterback commitments in the 2027, 2028 and 2029 classes, a run that could reshape the room for several seasons.

Cypher also got a preview of what that future might look like alongside another Miami quarterback commit, Knox Annis, who was at the event as well. That gave him a little taste of the competition waiting down the road.

"When we get to college, it's going to be the same way," Cypher told Rivals/On3 writer EJ Holland. "We're going to build that friendship, but also be competing at the same time."

What made Cypher’s weekend stand out even more was the setting. Most of the teams in the tournament were made up of all-star groups, but Cypher brought his full Carrollton squad, the only public school team in the first-year event.

For a prospect who committed more than two years ahead of time, the skepticism is inevitable. Cypher has already addressed that head-on, telling Holland that he is fully committed to Miami and previously explaining that he wanted to lock things in early so he could enjoy high school without the stress of the recruiting grind.

That timing fits the way college football recruiting works now. Power Four programs are already closing out most of their 2027 classes and moving well into 2028 evaluations, and quarterbacks tend to move even faster than everyone else. They are the centerpiece of a class, and they can also help pull other talent along with them.

For Miami, Cypher’s early pledge does more than fill a spot. It gives Cristobal and his staff time to build around him, and it gives Cypher time to get comfortable with the coaches and future teammates while also serving as an unofficial recruiter for the classes ahead.

Miami Arrives At ACC Kickoff With No More Room For Doubt

Miamis trip to the 2026 ACC Football Kickoff arrives with the kind of expectations that only come when a program has spent enough time circling the same summit. Mario Cristobal, Darian Mensah and Mohamed Toure are among the faces carrying that message in Charlotte, where the Hurricanes are being asked to talk about a season that has less to do with proving they belong and more to do with finally cashing in on the talent and momentum around them.

The backdrop is simple enough: Miami wants its first ACC championship and a real College Football Playoff push, and this week is the leagues annual stage for sorting contenders from hopefuls. The schedule for the kickoff event gives the Hurricanes a chance to keep that conversation going, but the larger question hangs over everything they say and do - whether this is the year the program turns the noise around it into something far more permanent. Miami Just Got More Validation On A Commit Cristobal Already Loved

Jayvon Dawsons commitment gave Miami a promising edge-rushing addition from Palm Beach County, and it also served as another sign that the Hurricanes may have landed a player whose stock was still climbing. The coaching staff already liked Dawson for the things that tend to travel well from recruiting board to Saturdays: his physical traits, his work ethic and the competitive edge he brings off the edge.

The latest evaluation only sharpens that picture. Dawson has moved into the conversation with some of the better prospects in Florida and among the nations top edge rushers, a boost that fits the way Miami has talked about him since the start. For a program trying to stack local talent and build depth at a premium position, it is the kind of validation that matters even before he takes a snap. [Read more 🡒]

Miami QB Darian Mensah Just Landed A Stunning New NIL Status

On3s latest overhaul of its NIL valuation model has already reshuffled the college football money conversation, and Miami quarterback Darian Mensah is right at the center of it. The new system is built on current deal values rather than the old algorithm-based approach, giving a more immediate look at what top players are actually commanding in the marketplace.

For Miami, the headline is less about the methodology and more about the company Mensah now keeps at the top of the sports NIL pecking order. The updated rankings put him No. 1 in the country, a notable marker for a Hurricanes program that has leaned heavily into the modern roster-building era and now has a quarterback whose off-field value matches the attention surrounding him.
