Miami Hurricanes linebacker Raul Aguirre Jr. is officially in the transfer portal, signaling the end of his three-year run in Coral Gables. The junior out of Fayetteville, Georgia-standing 6-foot-2 and weighing in at 233 pounds-still has a year of eligibility left, and he’s now looking for a new home where he can make a bigger impact.
Aguirre was a steady presence in Miami’s linebacker rotation this past season, suiting up for all 16 games and racking up 43 tackles along the way. He also notched a pass breakup, showing flashes of his ability in coverage. Over the course of his career with the Hurricanes, he totaled 77 tackles, one sack, and one pass defensed-solid production from a player who’s been part of a deep and competitive linebacker room.
Coming out of high school, Aguirre was a 4-star recruit with plenty of upside. At Miami, he carved out a role but never quite broke through as a full-time starter. Now, with the portal open and his experience in hand, he’s in a position to find a program where he can take on a bigger role and showcase the full scope of his game.
For teams in need of a seasoned linebacker with size, athleticism, and Power Five experience, Aguirre presents an intriguing option. He’s already proven he can contribute on special teams and in rotational duty-now he’ll be looking for a spot where he can take the next step and become a centerpiece on defense.
