Miami kept one of its biggest in-state prizes home on Thursday, landing five-star wide receiver Brysen Wright and adding another major piece to Mario Cristobal’s 2027 recruiting haul.
Wright, who had been in the 2028 cycle, announced his commitment on Instagram Live from an auditorium with family and friends around him. He will reclassify into the 2027 class, giving Miami a local star with elite production and even more versatility than the average wideout.
The Jacksonville native, who attends Mandarin High School, was previously ranked by 247Sports Composite as the No. 3 player nationally, the No. 1 wide receiver and the No. 1 player in Florida. On the field this season, he piled up 1,115 all-purpose yards, catching 46 passes while also getting two carries, returning 36 punts and scoring three pick-sixes, according to MaxPreps. He has also played on defense, where he posted 26 total tackles, including 14 solo stops, 12 assists and a tackle for loss.
Wright’s recruitment drew more than 20 Power Four offers, with Alabama, Ohio State, Florida State, Georgia and Oregon among the schools in the mix, along with Notre Dame.
His commitment gives Miami its 21st pledge in the 2027 class and adds to a group that already includes five-stars Donte Wright at cornerback, Israel Abrams at quarterback, Nick Lennear at wide receiver, Jaiden Bryant at edge rusher and A’Mir Sears as a two-way athlete. The Hurricanes now have 10 of those 21 commitments from Florida, a list that also includes Lennear, Sears and Wright.
The Hurricanes have been especially active with local prospects since coming off the National Championship game, and Wright is the latest example of that pull. He is teammates at Mandarin with three-star quarterback and Miami commit Knox Annis, another connection that kept the Hurricanes in the center of his recruitment.
Wright was in the building for Miami’s 43-35 double-overtime win over Florida State at Hard Rock Stadium on Oct. 17.
Even with the game getting away from the Hurricanes late, it did not hurt their standing with him. He was there with other elite 2028 prospects, including five-star safety Casey Barner and five-star edge rusher Asher Ghioto.
Miami now turns to another marquee stage, with a prime-time trip to Notre Dame in South Bend on deck. The Hurricanes will go there without Malachi Toney, who is out after high ankle sprain surgery, but the matchup still carries plenty of buzz.

Miami Fans Feared The Worst Until Irvins Real Message Hit
Michael Irvin sent Miami fans into a brief panic with a message he posted online, but the concern turned out to be about football, not his health. The Hall of Famer is fine, and the real source of his frustration is the loss of wide receiver Malachi Toney, who is set to miss an upcoming game after ankle surgery.
Toney is expected to be sidelined for at least four weeks, leaving Miami to adjust without one of its pass-catching options as the season moves into a crucial stretch. The hope around the program is that he can work his way back in time for the College Football Playoff, which gives the injury a different kind of urgency even if the immediate scare around Irvin has passed. Miami Just Landed An Elite Receiver With An Extra Twist
Miami added another big piece to its receiver pipeline with the commitment of Brysen Wright, one of the nations top wideout prospects. Wright had plenty of high-major options, but Miami had been in the mix for a while, helped by the fact that he has made repeated visits and taken part in events around the program. For a Hurricanes staff trying to keep momentum on the recruiting trail, landing a player with his profile is the kind of move that can resonate well beyond a single pledge.
The extra twist is Wrights timeline, which changes the way Miami can plan around him and the rest of its class. His decision to reclassify to the 2027 cycle gives the Hurricanes a longer runway with a receiver who already arrives with strong high school production and plenty of attention attached to his name. With the Early Signing Period still ahead, Miamis class just got a little more dangerous, and there may still be more to come. [Read more 🡒]
Miami Lands No. 1 As Early CFP Debate Heats Up
The first College Football Playoff rankings of 2026 gave Miami exactly the kind of spotlight an unbeaten start can earn. The Hurricanes landed at No. 1 when the selection committee unveiled its initial top 25, putting them ahead of a field that also includes Georgia, Utah, Indiana and Alabama in the top five.
Now the real pressure begins, because these rankings are only a snapshot and the schedule ahead is expected to keep reshaping the conversation.
