Miami picked up another recruiting boost this week as edge rusher Jayvon Dawson moved into four-star territory in Rivals/On3’s latest update.
Dawson, a Palm Beach County prospect, went from three stars to the 102nd-ranked player in the country, a jump that also pushed him into the four-star club. The rise adds another win for Mario Cristobal, who has made a habit of landing blue-chip talent while also finding players whose best football still appears to be ahead of them.
Dawson has been on Miami’s radar for a while. The Hurricanes staff evaluated him multiple times, and he had already visited campus for events before Cristobal and defensive ends coach Jason Taylor finally offered him in early May. Less than a week later, Dawson committed to Miami.
His stock has climbed since then, helped by strong showings on the camp circuit. He worked at Miami’s elite camp against some of the nation’s top offensive tackles and then turned in more impressive reps at The Opening showcase a couple of weeks ago.
With the new ranking, Dawson now sits as a top-10 player in Florida and the 11th-ranked edge rusher in the country. At nearly 6-foot-4 and nearly 220 pounds, he already has the frame that jumps off the page, and there’s plenty of room to imagine what he could become after more time in the weight room and coaching from one of the best pass rushers in NFL history.
Miami also likes what it sees beyond the measurables. Dawson plays with urgency, brings full effort on every rep and responds well to coaching.
He’s competitive, hungry and doesn’t seem to take the opportunity lightly. In that sense, he fits the kind of under-the-radar, high-upside profile that Cristobal and his staff have targeted before.

Miami Arrives At ACC Kickoff With No More Room For Doubt
Miamis trip to the 2026 ACC Football Kickoff arrives with the kind of expectations that only come when a program has spent enough time circling the same summit. Mario Cristobal, Darian Mensah and Mohamed Toure are among the faces carrying that message in Charlotte, where the Hurricanes are being asked to talk about a season that has less to do with proving they belong and more to do with finally cashing in on the talent and momentum around them.
The backdrop is simple enough: Miami wants its first ACC championship and a real College Football Playoff push, and this week is the leagues annual stage for sorting contenders from hopefuls. The schedule for the kickoff event gives the Hurricanes a chance to keep that conversation going, but the larger question hangs over everything they say and do - whether this is the year the program turns the noise around it into something far more permanent. Miami QB Darian Mensah Just Landed A Stunning New NIL Status
On3s latest overhaul of its NIL valuation model has already reshuffled the college football money conversation, and Miami quarterback Darian Mensah is right at the center of it. The new system is built on current deal values rather than the old algorithm-based approach, giving a more immediate look at what top players are actually commanding in the marketplace.
For Miami, the headline is less about the methodology and more about the company Mensah now keeps at the top of the sports NIL pecking order. The updated rankings put him No. 1 in the country, a notable marker for a Hurricanes program that has leaned heavily into the modern roster-building era and now has a quarterback whose off-field value matches the attention surrounding him.
