The Miami Hurricanes may already have one of the nation’s best 2027 recruiting classes, but the next wave is where things could get even more interesting.
Miami’s 2028 board has started to take shape, and one name sitting near the top is Asher Ghioto, a five-star edge rusher from The Bolles School in Jacksonville. Ghioto has been on Miami’s radar for a while now, and the Hurricanes have already hosted him on five unofficial visits to Coral Gables.
His production jumps off the page. In two seasons, according to MaxPreps, Ghioto has piled up 150 total tackles, 113 solo stops, 37 assists, 56 tackles for loss, 30 sacks - 23 of them as a sophomore - and an interception in 27 games.
The competition for him is about to heat up. Ghioto is reportedly set to visit six schools during the 2026 college football season, with a schedule that includes Notre Dame on Sept. 6 against Wisconsin, Texas on Sept. 12 against Ohio State, Georgia on Sept. 26 against Oklahoma, Texas A&M on Oct. 2 a day before facing Arkansas, Miami on Oct. 17 against Florida State, South Carolina on Oct. 24 two days before facing Alabama at Tuscaloosa, and Florida on Nov. 7 against Oklahoma.
That kind of itinerary tells you plenty about the level of interest around him. Ghioto holds more than 50 scholarship offers, including several from Power Four programs, but Miami has a strong case. The Hurricanes can offer him a chance to work under defensive line coach and Pro Football Hall of Famer Jason Taylor, who helped develop Akheem Mesidor and All-American Rueben Bain Jr. into first-round selections in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Miami also has some traction in the prediction game. Rivals lists the Hurricanes with a 67.1 prediction-leading percentage, and 247Sports State of Florida recruit reporter Zach Blostein has Crystal Ball’d Ghioto to “The U” with medium confidence.
Even with Mesidor and Bain Jr. headed to the pros, Miami’s edge room still looks loaded. Marquise Lightfoot, Missouri transfer Damon Wilson II, Hayden Lowe, and Armondo Blount are expected to keep the unit rolling.
For now, Ghioto remains a major target with plenty of time left before a decision comes down, and Miami looks well positioned to stay in the mix until Football Executive Dennis Smith makes the announcement.
