Miami’s push to finish the 2027 class has taken a serious turn, and the Hurricanes have brought Ohio State linebacker commit Quinton Cypher back on campus for a surprise visit.
Cypher isn’t the only high-profile name in Coral Gables this weekend. Five-star EDGE DJ Jacobs is also at Hard Rock Stadium, and Miami appears to be making a major effort to land multiple flips as the close of the cycle approaches. The two could end up as future teammates if the Hurricanes can pull this off.
Cypher committed to Ohio State in late December, picking the Buckeyes over Miami, Alabama and Georgia. Miami offered him in January 2025 and also attended one of his games last season, so the Hurricanes never really disappeared from his recruitment even after his commitment. Still, once he pledged to Ryan Day’s program, the chatter around him cooled off and he looked like a fairly secure Buckeye pledge.
That picture may be changing now. As CanesInSight noted on Oct. 24, 2026, Miami is very high on the North Carolina native and he is on campus for a visit.
Cypher checks the kind of boxes Miami wants at linebacker. Listed at 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds, he has the kind of athletic profile that makes coaches sit up.
He can shoot gaps, play off the ball and range sideline to sideline. He also shows the instincts to handle zone coverage and defend the pass.
He has not often been put in situations where he has to stick with a running back or tight end in the flats, but there is clear pop in his game.
The rankings back up the buzz. Both 247Sports and Rivals/On3 view Cypher as a four-star prospect.
247Sports has him inside its top 200, while Rivals/On3 slots him 215th overall. Both services also rate him as a top-10 player in North Carolina and a top-20 linebacker nationally.
The offer sheet is stacked, too, with schools such as Oregon, Florida, Tennessee, Clemson, Duke, Georgia Tech, Michigan, South Carolina and Virginia Tech among the programs in the mix.
This is Cypher’s second visit to Miami, and with the Early Signing Period about six weeks away, the Hurricanes have a real window to keep nudging him toward a flip. Miami already has 20 commitments in its 2027 class, but adding another linebacker would help address future depth concerns at the position, especially with Chase Smith and Mo Toure eventually moving on. Getting Cypher back on campus is a strong sign that Miami is still very much in this race.

Mario Cristobals Postgame Moment Kept Miamis Feud In The Spotlight
Miamis win over Pitt settled one part of the night, but the postgame scene kept another storyline alive. With the Hurricanes coach Mario Cristobal and Panthers coach Pat Narduzzi meeting after a game already loaded with edge, the handshake drew attention almost as much as the result, especially after Narduzzis earlier public accusations about Miamis recruiting tactics added extra heat to the matchup.
The exchange came off as tense but still cordial, though Cristobals gestures were viewed by some as more aggressive than routine. It was a fitting end to a game shaped in part by Pitts quarterback injury, which had already altered the feel of the matchup before the final whistle. [Read more 🡒]
No. 1 Miami Just Sent A Scary Message To Everyone
Miami kept rolling with another complete performance, the kind that reinforces why it sits at No. 1 and remains unbeaten. The offense was balanced and explosive, with freshman Javian Mallory providing a steady presence on the ground and quarterback Darian Mensah pushing the pace through the air with a big passing day.
What stood out just as much was the way Miamis defense controlled the game from start to finish. The Hurricanes came away with two sacks, four tackles for loss and a forced fumble while holding the opponent under 100 rushing yards, a reminder that this team is winning with more than just firepower. If there was any doubt about how complete Miami can look at its best, this outing offered another strong answer. [Read more 🡒]
Miami Gets A Break As Pitt's Backfield Suddenly Changes
Pitts backfield took a late hit heading into its matchup with No. 1 Miami, with JaKyrian Turner ruled out because of a lower-body injury despite being listed as probable on the ACC availability report. Turner has appeared in only three games this season and has not played since Oct. 10, leaving Pitt to adjust its plans without one of its more familiar options in the rotation.
Damon Ferguson Jr. and LaVell Wright now figure to carry the load in his absence, giving Miami one less name to account for as it prepares for the Panthers offense. It is a notable break for the Hurricanes, who can now focus on a Pitt ground game built around different personnel than the one originally expected. [Read more 🡒]
