Miami Is Building Real Momentum In A Massive WR Recruiting Battle

The Miami Hurricanes are pulling ahead in the race for top prospect Brysen Wright, marking a pivotal moment in their 2028 recruiting efforts.

The Miami Hurricanes are making a serious push for one of the biggest names in the 2028 class, and right now they appear to be in a strong spot with five-star wide receiver Brysen Wright.

On Tuesday afternoon, CanesInSight’s @DMoney said Miami is sitting near the front of the pack in Wright’s recruitment. “I really, really like where Miami sits in this one. I would say Miami is firmly in the lead for Bryson Wright, in my opinion, and based on what I'm hearing,” DMoney stated.

That momentum gets a big test this weekend. Wright is set to be at Hard Rock Stadium when Miami faces Florida State, giving the Hurricanes another chance to make their case in person. He has already been to Coral Gables four times, including a visit this past summer.

“This weekend is enormous. He's going to be on campus.

He's going to be at the game. He's going to see the full stadium.

He's going to see how Miami uses his wide receivers. A huge opportunity to get Bryson Wright really going in the Miami direction, which I think he is already leaning.”

Miami is not alone in the mix. Florida, Ohio State, and Texas are also listed among the major contenders for Wright.

The Mandarin standout has backed up the hype this season, putting up 29 catches for 652 yards and seven touchdowns while averaging 22.5 yards per reception. He also already has a familiar connection in Miami’s recruiting class: three-star quarterback Knox Annis, his quarterback at Mandarin, is one of the Hurricanes’ two pledges so far. The other is four-star offensive lineman Kweli Fielder.

As things stand, Miami’s 2028 class is ranked No. 15, and the Hurricanes are trying to use this weekend’s visit to keep building their edge with the nation’s top player in the cycle.

Bryce Fitzgerald Could Change Miamis Secondary At The Perfect Time

Miamis defense has spent the week working through some health issues, and that has pushed the secondary into a different shape at exactly the right moment. Bryce Fitzgerald has been part of that adjustment, moving from safety to cornerback and giving the Hurricanes another option in a back end that has had to absorb some shuffling while the staff waits for injured players to get back into the mix.

The timing matters because Florida State is next, and Miami could use as much flexibility as possible on the perimeter. Coaches have spoken highly of Fitzgeralds versatility and how he has handled the change, while Xavier Lucas is expected to return for the matchup, adding another layer to a unit that has been piecing things together on the fly. Even with help on the way, Fitzgeralds role may be one of the more interesting developments in the secondary as the Hurricanes try to stabilize it. [Read more 🡒]

Miami Emerging For Elite Lineman Fans Will Want To Watch

Miami has quietly put itself in a strong position with Maui Tonata, a highly ranked 2028 offensive tackle from Utah who is already drawing plenty of attention on the recruiting trail. The rising lineman has been to Coral Gables twice and has made it clear he is open to heading to the East Coast, which gives the Hurricanes a real foothold with a prospect who fits the kind of long-term build Miami has tried to sell.

Recruiting insider Steve Wiltfong recently put a 60% confidence prediction on Tonata landing with Miami, and the Hurricanes also sit atop the recruiting prediction metrics for him right now. Tonata has spoken positively about Miami's coaching staff and facilities, so the early signs are encouraging, but with a prospect this highly regarded, the process is still in the stage where every visit and every conversation can matter a lot. Miami Just Got A Recruiting Warning Fans Can't Ignore

Miamis recruiting board took a hit when four-star interior offensive lineman Jatori Williams backed off his commitment and reopened his recruitment. Williams made a point of thanking Miamis coaching staff and stressing that his decision was personal rather than a reflection of any frustration with the program, but the move still matters for a team trying to keep momentum on the trail.

Williams is still in touch with Alabama, and his next stop could come from a familiar group of heavyweight suitors that also includes Auburn, Georgia and Florida State. For Miami, the challenge now is obvious: turn a decommitment into a brief detour before the battle for one of the better interior line prospects in the class really ramps up. [Read more 🡒]
