Miami In Position To Make A Statement With Elite Florida Guard

The high-stakes recruitment saga for top-ranked point guard Cayden Daughtry sees Miami emerging as a strong contender in a heated clash with Florida and Iowa.

Miami is right in the thick of the race for one of the nation’s premier 2027 point guards, and Cayden Daughtry’s next stop could be a big one. The Calvary Christian Academy standout is weighing Miami, Florida and Iowa, with his official visit to Coral Gables scheduled for Oct. 16-18.

Daughtry, who is from Fort Lauderdale and measures 6-foot, 155 pounds, has built a résumé that matches his lofty national standing. 247Sports has him No. 3 overall and No. 2 at point guard in the 2027 class. ESPN slots him No. 4 nationally and No. 2 among point guards, while Rivals has him No. 8 overall and No. 2 at the position.

The production backs up the rankings. Daughtry earned MaxPreps National Junior of the Year honors after putting up 26.5 points, 5.2 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 2.7 steals per game while helping Calvary Christian capture a second straight state title. In the championship game, he delivered 30 points and eight assists.

He was just as explosive on the summer circuit, where he took home Peach Jam MVP after averaging 32.3 points, 6.1 assists, 4.9 rebounds and 2.9 steals. He also shot 58.6% from the field and 48.8% from 3-point range.

Daughtry’s recruitment has already narrowed from a long list. In late August, he cut things to 14 schools: Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami, Michigan, Providence, Tennessee, UConn, USC, Vanderbilt and Villanova.

He has been making the rounds since then. Daughtry visited Florida State from Aug.

28-30, Tennessee on Sept. 4-6, Iowa on Sept. 11-13 and Florida on Sept.

25-27. After Miami, his upcoming stops include Louisville on Oct. 24 and Arkansas from Oct.

30-Nov. 1.

There’s also a clear connection to Miami’s pitch. HC Jai Lucas has repeatedly stressed the importance of keeping elite Florida talent at home, and he already landed 5-star Caleb Gaskins from the 2026 class. Adding Daughtry would be another major win for that approach and a meaningful sign that Miami’s recruiting footprint is growing.
