Wednesday night at the Watsco Center wasn’t just another tally in the win column for Miami-it was a statement on and off the court.
The Hurricanes took care of business with a 79-70 win over Stanford, improving to 17-4 on the season. But while the scoreboard told one story, another was quietly unfolding in the stands. Cody Peck, one of the top big men in the 2026 recruiting class, was in the building for an official visit, and Miami made sure to put on a show.
Peck, a 6-foot-10, 205-pound center out of Davidson Day School in North Carolina, is currently ranked No. 81 nationally by 247Sports. A four-star prospect with a growing list of suitors, he’s the kind of frontcourt presence that can anchor a college program. And on Wednesday, he got his first in-person look at what Miami basketball is all about.
The Hurricanes didn’t disappoint. From the opening tip, they played with purpose, showcasing the kind of up-tempo, high-energy style that’s become a hallmark of their program.
For a player like Peck-long, athletic, and still developing-the fit is intriguing. Miami’s system favors mobile bigs who can run the floor, protect the rim, and contribute on both ends.
Watching that live, in a packed arena, surrounded by family? That’s the kind of visit that sticks.
Peck’s recruitment is far from over. He’s already taken official visits to Dayton and Tennessee, and his offer sheet includes a who’s who of high-major programs: Miami, Tennessee, Clemson, LSU, NC State, Wake Forest, SMU, Creighton, Georgetown, Dayton, and more. The competition is stiff, and the decision won’t come easy.
But make no mistake-Wednesday night gave Miami a valuable opportunity to make its pitch. And in front of a future Division I big man, the Hurricanes delivered a performance worth remembering.
