Miami Hurricanes Surge to NCAA Round of 32 with Senior Power

Miami Hurricanes surge past Missouri with key performances from seniors, setting the stage for a thrilling showdown against Purdue.

In a thrilling display of resilience, Malik Reneau and Tre Donaldson led the Miami Hurricanes to a Round of 32 berth, overcoming early struggles to secure an 80-66 victory over the Missouri Tigers in St. Louis. Despite a rough patch at the end of the first half, these seniors stepped up when it mattered most, embodying the spirit of "March Madness."

The Hurricanes, seeded seventh, faced some offensive hurdles, particularly from the free-throw line, hitting just 58.6 percent of their attempts. This opened the door for the Tigers to stay in contention longer than Miami would have liked. Yet, the experience and poise of Reneau and Donaldson shone through, combining for a commanding 41 points on 48.1 percent shooting.

Reneau was a standout, posting a game-high 24 points along with six rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and a steal over 36 minutes. His ability to adjust in the second half, knocking down two crucial three-pointers, helped extend Miami's lead. Despite facing tough defense, he found ways to contribute significantly.

Donaldson added 17 points, shooting 54.5 percent, and filled the stat sheet with eight rebounds, six assists, and four steals. His five-of-seven shooting from beyond the arc, particularly in the second half, was pivotal in sealing the win.

Freshman forward Shelton Henderson also made a splash in his NCAA Tournament debut, contributing 15 points, six rebounds, four assists, and a steal. Known for his physical play, Henderson attacked the paint with tenacity, adding to Miami's offensive firepower.

The Hurricanes dominated the boards, out-rebounding the Tigers 46-30, with 16 offensive rebounds leading to 19 second-chance points. This effort on the glass was a key factor in their victory.

Missouri's star senior, Mark Mitchell, faced a tough challenge, managing 19 points but shooting just 40 percent. While he found some rhythm from three-point range in the second half, Reneau and Ernest Udeh Jr. made scoring in the paint a difficult task for him.

Jayden Stone kept Missouri's hopes alive with a valiant 21-point effort, but it wasn't enough to overcome Miami's balanced attack and defensive intensity.

Next up, the Hurricanes face a formidable opponent in the second-seed Purdue Boilermakers. This matchup promises to be another exciting chapter in Miami's tournament journey, set for Sunday at 12:10 p.m. Eastern Time on CBS.
