In a thrilling ACC showdown, the Miami Hurricanes showcased their mettle with a decisive 83-73 victory over Florida State, fueled by standout performances from Malik Reneau and Tre Donaldson. Both players put up 20-point games, propelling Miami to a strong finish in the Donald L. Tucker Center.
The Hurricanes, now boasting a 22-6 overall record and an 11-4 mark in conference play, took control early. They led for most of the first half, heading into the locker room with a 38-32 advantage.
Key moments included a three-pointer from Timo Malovec and an electrifying dunk by Reneau. Despite a spirited fightback from the Seminoles, who trimmed the lead to two, Miami held firm.
Tru Washington made his presence felt late in the first half, scoring seven of Miami’s last 10 points, capped by a buzzer-beating three-pointer.
In the second half, the Seminoles narrowed the gap to four, but Miami responded with a powerful surge. Shelton Henderson’s and-one play and a Donaldson three-pointer extended the lead to double digits. Florida State, however, wasn't done, as they mounted a 13-3 run to level the score.
Miami answered with a 9-2 burst, reclaiming a 66-59 lead and forcing a timeout from the Seminoles. Donaldson took charge, stretching the lead to 11 with a series of clutch shots, including two jumpers and a three-pointer.
With the score at 75-71, Donaldson's free throw and Reneau's quick putback extended Miami’s cushion to seven points. The Hurricanes sealed the deal by hitting five of their last six free throws.
Reneau was a force on the court, leading all scorers with 23 points and grabbing 12 rebounds, seven of which were on the offensive glass. Donaldson, playing in his hometown, added 21 points-15 in the second half-and dished out six assists.
Washington contributed 11 points, while Henderson chipped in with 10. Ernest Udeh Jr. added seven points and matched his rebounds.
Miami's dominance on the boards was evident, outrebounding Florida State 42-23 and controlling the paint with a 42-30 edge. The Hurricanes were efficient from the field, shooting 52.5% overall and a scorching 58.6% in the second half. This victory underscores Miami's prowess as they continue their impressive season.
