Miami Hurricanes Secure Commitment from Versatile Star Demarcus Deroche

The Miami Hurricanes have landed a major win on the recruiting trail with the commitment of four-star athlete Demarcus Deroche. This versatile playmaker has decided to shut down his recruitment, turning down other programs like the Texas Longhorns to pledge his future to Miami.

Hailing from Fort Lauderdale, Deroche is a standout at Cardinal Gibbons High School, excelling in both football and basketball. On the gridiron, he shines as a tight end, boasting 22 receptions for 291 yards and seven touchdowns over 17 games. His defensive prowess is evident as well, with 21 tackles, including five for a loss, and six sacks as an outside linebacker.

On the basketball court, Deroche is no slouch either, averaging 8.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game over three seasons as a power forward.

Despite interest from top programs like Ohio State, Missouri, Florida, and Louisville, Deroche chose the Hurricanes after an unofficial visit to Florida State on September 6, 2025. He made his commitment official on August 29, 2025.

Ranked 327th nationally and 16th among athletes for the class of 2027, Deroche stands at an impressive 6-4, 215 pounds. His decision to join Miami adds to the Hurricanes' strong focus on nurturing local talent, following in the footsteps of players like Rueben Bain Jr. and Wesley Bissainthe.

Deroche is expected to make an immediate impact in Miami’s tight end room, fitting perfectly into offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson’s schemes. His ability to run routes and make plays will be a significant asset.

The Hurricanes have already secured four commitments for the 2027 class, all from Florida, including wide receiver Ah'Mari Stevens, safety Jaylyn Jones, and offensive tackle Zaquan Linton. Coming off a National Championship appearance, Miami is determined to stay competitive, and Deroche’s addition could be a game-changer.

While the Hurricanes continue to bolster their roster with scheduled official visits, they are currently without a tight ends coach, following Cody Woodiel’s move to the SEC with Ole Miss. Nonetheless, the future looks bright with Deroche set to don the Miami colors.
