Can the Miami Hurricanes Secure Five-Star Cornerback Joshua Dobson?
The Miami Hurricanes are in hot pursuit of high school sensation Joshua Dobson, a five-star cornerback who's turning heads across the nation. Dobson, who hails from Catawba Ridge High School in Fort Mill, South Carolina, is making the rounds with multiple college programs this spring, including a crucial visit to Coral Gables.
Dobson's stats speak volumes: 76 tackles, two tackles for loss, 17 passes defended, and six interceptions over 28 games. After transferring to Hough High School in Cornelius, North Carolina, his reputation only grew.
Scheduled to tour Miami's campus from April 2 to 4, Dobson's recruitment is heating up. He's drawing interest from top programs like Clemson, Texas Tech, South Carolina, Auburn, and LSU, all of which have lined up official multi-day visits.
Ranked sixth nationally, second among cornerbacks, and first in North Carolina for the 2027 class, Dobson stands at an impressive 6-1, 185 pounds. The Hurricanes are dealing with coaching changes, notably the departure of cornerbacks coach Zac Etheridge to the NFL's Arizona Cardinals. Despite this, their secondary was a powerhouse last season, with standout performances like Bryce Fitzgerald's top freshman safety grade of 80.7 from PFF.
While Miami might be trailing in the recruitment race, Dobson's visit could turn the tide. His packed spring schedule includes stops at Clemson on March 7, Texas Tech from March 13-15, South Carolina from March 21-22, Texas A&M from March 27-29, and LSU from April 17-19.
Dobson showcased his skills at the Under Armour All-American game, playing for Team Pearls in a tough 23-9 loss to Team Roses. His versatility is undeniable, having contributed on offense at Catawba Ridge with three catches for 135 yards and two touchdowns. Plus, his special teams prowess is evident with 602 return yards from kicks and punts.
The Hurricanes, who recently snagged five-star offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell for their 2026 class, have proven they can attract elite talent. Now, they just need to seal the deal with Dobson.
