The Miami Hurricanes are making waves in the recruiting world, flipping some high-profile high school commits for their 2026 class, including the impressive four-star tight end Gavin Mueller. Fresh off a National Championship, the Hurricanes are hungry for more success and are setting their sights on another top recruit: four-star linebacker Quinton Cypher.
Cypher, a standout at Millbrook High School in Raleigh, North Carolina, is a force on the field. With 511 total tackles, 88 tackles for loss, and 21.5 sacks over three seasons, his stats speak volumes.
Not to mention, he's snagged nine interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown. At 6-3 and 220 pounds, Cypher is ranked 187th nationally and 17th among linebackers, making him a coveted prospect.
Despite committing to Ohio State on December 19, 2025, the Hurricanes aren't backing down. They’re pushing hard to sway Cypher, even though he hasn't scheduled any more visits. The competition is fierce, with interest from top programs like Florida, Florida State, Alabama, and Notre Dame.
Miami's recent National Championship victory and a gritty 24-14 win over Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl quarterfinal highlight their competitive edge. The defense, featuring a standout 70-yard pick-six by cornerback Keionte Scott, was pivotal.
Flipping Cypher won't be easy, especially without a campus visit, but Miami is building a formidable 2027 recruiting class, already boasting elite wide receivers Nick Lennear and Ah’Mari Stevens. Cypher would fit seamlessly into their defense, known for its physicality, and would benefit from the mentorship of defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman, a Broyles Award finalist.
While Ohio State's recent National Championship gives them a recruiting edge, the Hurricanes' relentless pursuit and strong program foundation make this an intriguing battle to watch.
