The No. 1 Miami Hurricanes head into Chapel Hill with most of their key pieces still available, but Wednesday night’s ACC injury report showed a few spots worth watching, especially in the secondary.
For Mario Cristobal’s team, the list of players ruled out was mostly familiar territory. Wide receiver Joshua Moore is out for the season with an upper-body injury, running back CharMar "Marty" Brown is also out for the season because of a right knee issue, and tight end Luka Gilbert remains out for the season with an undisclosed injury. Also ruled out were cornerback Ja'Boree Antoine, right guard Max Buchanan with a left knee injury, and cornerback Romanas "OJ" Frederique Jr. with a left shoulder injury.
Two names that stood out for different reasons did not appear on the report. Freshman receiver Milan Parris, who sat out last Saturday’s 52-23 win over Pitt with an undisclosed injury, was not listed. Parris has yet to settle into a steady role, logging just 54 offensive snaps across five games played in seven appearances.
Veteran cornerback Xavier Lucas was absent from the report as well, even after leaving the Panthers game while trying to make an interception. Miami’s secondary has been dealing with injuries all season, and it has forced defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman to keep shuffling pieces around.
UNC is dealing with its own issues on the other side. Starting cornerback Tre Miller is out with an undisclosed injury for a third straight game.
Starting safety Peyton Waters, who hasn’t played since Duke on Oct. 17, is questionable. Starting left tackle Jordan Hall is also questionable after appearing in just four games this season, including last Saturday against Syracuse.
Starting left guard Andrew Threatt is listed as questionable too, even after playing 30 snaps against Syracuse.
Miami’s offense may also keep an eye on Malachi Toney, who was not listed despite taking a hard hit against Pitt. He stayed in the game and finished it, but the moment could still lead offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson to spread the ball around more. Cooper Barkate and Daylyn Upshaw have been steady starters alongside Toney.
With the regular season entering its final stretch, Miami will be trying to keep everyone upright before a prime-time rivalry matchup with Notre Dame, which is viewed as the Hurricanes’ biggest test of the season.

Notre Dame Could Be Miamis Biggest Unbeaten Test Yet
Miami heads into Halloween weekend as one of just three unbeaten FBS teams left standing, and the attention now shifts from preserving the perfect record to surviving what comes next. The Hurricanes have paired a strong offense with a defense that has kept opposing teams under control, which has made their start look sustainable rather than lucky, but the calendar only gets less forgiving from here.
Notre Dame looms as the kind of matchup that can tell everyone whether Miamis unbeaten run is a statement or just a fast start. Other unbeaten teams like Utah and UCLA have their own tricky paths ahead, and projections still point to all three landing in the same neighborhood by seasons end, but for Miami the next test could be the one that defines how serious this season really is. Belichick Faces A Brutal North Carolina Test At No. 1 Miami
Miami has climbed to No. 1 in the AP Top 25 for the first time since 2002, and the timing only sharpens the spotlight on what comes next. A strong start has pushed the Hurricanes into rarefied territory, backed by a 14-1 run over their last 15 games and powered by a roster that can make almost any Saturday feel like a showcase.
North Carolina arrives with its own history in this matchup, having won the last five meetings, including two against Miami coach Mario Cristobal. The Tar Heels will have to deal with two Heisman Trophy contenders in quarterback Darian Mensah and wide receiver Malachi Toney, both of whom sit near the top of the national statistical picture, which is exactly why this game feels less like a checkpoint and more like a measuring stick. Miami Gets A Halloween Shot At Ending A Rivalry Frustration
A Halloween meeting with North Carolina gives Miami another chance to chip away at one of its more frustrating modern conference rivalries. The Tar Heels have had the upper hand in the series for decades, and since the Hurricanes joined the ACC in 2004, the matchup has become an annual one with plenty of tight finishes and a few memorable turns along the way.
Miamis last win in Chapel Hill came in 2017, a reminder that this trip has not been an easy one for the Hurricanes. North Carolina has won five straight in the series, and the recent history has included everything from close games to the Tar Heels record-setting rushing performance in 2020, so Miami will be looking to turn a familiar date on the calendar into a much-needed reset.
