Saturday night’s Florida State-Miami matchup at Hard Rock Stadium is shaping up to be more than just a top-10 game for the Hurricanes. It’s also becoming one of the biggest recruiting stages of the fall.
No. 3 Miami is set to host a loaded group of visitors, and the list already includes seven five-star prospects along with several of the highest-ranked players in the 2028 class. Mario Cristobal, Executive Director of Football Dennis Smith and the rest of the staff have kept pressing hard on the trail, and that work is paying off with a massive game-day turnout.
The headliners are two elite prospects Miami has been chasing hard: Jacksonville Mandarin wide receiver Brysen Wright and safety Casey Barner.
Wright, the Rivals Industry Rankings’ No. 3 overall prospect, is back on campus with Miami sitting near the top of his list. Texas and Florida are also in the mix, but the Hurricanes have made him a priority, and the offense has caught his attention. Malachi Toney’s emergence has been part of that pitch.
Barner brings the kind of profile every program wants at the back end of the defense. He is the Rivals Industry Rankings’ No. 1 safety and No. 2 overall prospect, and Miami continues to leave a strong impression even with Ohio State, Georgia and Texas A&M still involved.
The Hurricanes are also expecting two of their biggest offensive line targets. Maui Tonata, the Rivals Industry Rankings’ No. 1 offensive tackle and No. 11 overall prospect out of Orem, Utah, is set to return for his second trip to Coral Gables after visiting and camping with Miami in June. Jamarios Canton, the No. 5 interior offensive lineman, is also scheduled to be there.
On the defensive front, Miami will get a chance to sell itself to two more five-stars. Edge rusher Asher Ghioto of The Bolles School and defensive tackle Prince Che of Thomas County Central are both expected in Coral Gables.
Ghioto has been the most consistent fit for Miami so far, with Georgia and Florida still in contention, and the Hurricanes will be looking to make up ground after his most recent trip to Georgia. Che has narrowed things to seven schools - Miami, Texas A&M, LSU, Florida, Oklahoma, Georgia and Texas - and this will be one of his biggest game-day visits.
Another major name on the list is Jaylen Addai, the No. 1 prospect in Texas and the Rivals Industry Rankings’ No. 8 overall player. The Shadow Creek receiver is an LSU legacy and has shown interest in LSU and Notre Dame, but Miami has its own built-in connections through Smith, who previously recruited Addai’s father. That relationship matters here.
Miami is also hosting Nasir Richardson, the nation’s No. 1 cornerback and No. 10 overall prospect. The Malcolm X Shabazz star has been eager to get to Coral Gables and has already taken game visits to Penn State and Michigan.
The tight end and athlete group adds even more shine to the weekend. Grant Bowen, Rivals’ No. 1 athlete and a prospect some evaluators project at linebacker, is coming as well. Miami is among his favorites, alongside Notre Dame, Ohio State and Iowa, where his father played.
More visitors could still be added before kickoff, but the message is already clear: this is a huge weekend for Miami on the recruiting trail. The Hurricanes have assembled an elite guest list, and now they need to back it up on the field against FSU.

Miami Faces One Huge O-Line Decision Before Florida State
Miamis offensive line has a major vacancy to sort out, and the timing is about as delicate as it gets with Florida State coming up. Max Buchanan, the Hurricanes starting right guard, is out for an extended stretch after surgery, leaving Mario Cristobal and his staff to reshuffle a group that has to be ready for one of the biggest games on the schedule.
Seuseu Alofaituli, Jackson Cantwell and Jamal Meriweather are all in the mix to handle the job, with each bringing a different level of experience and fit to the competition. Miami still has time to settle on its next starter, but the decision will be made before the rivalry matchup, and the choice could shape how stable the offense feels going into that week. Miami Faces One Rivalry Trap Despite Its Perfect Start
Miami heads into Week 7 with plenty going right, unbeaten and alone atop the ACC at 5-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play. A bye week gave the Hurricanes extra time to heal, and several injured players are expected back as they prepare to host Florida State at Hard Rock Stadium. On paper, it looks like the kind of setup that should favor a team that has spent the first half of the season stacking wins and building momentum.
But rivalry games rarely care about records, and Florida State arrives with nothing to lose and a need for a signature victory. The Seminoles have struggled, yet that can make them dangerous in a matchup like this, especially with thunderstorms in the forecast and the kind of unpredictable atmosphere that can turn a clean-looking Saturday into a grind. Miami has handled everything so far, but this is the sort of game that can test a perfect start in ways the standings never show. [Read more 🡒]
Miami Must Be Ready For FSU QB's Most Dangerous Trait
Florida States offense has taken on a very different shape with Ashton Daniels at quarterback, and Miami will have to account for more than just his arm when the rivalry game arrives. The fifth-year senior has brought a lot of experience with him from Stanford and Auburn, and he has become a major part of the Seminoles rushing attack while also setting a school record for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback.
The passing numbers tell the other part of the story. Daniels has thrown eight touchdown passes, but he has also been intercepted seven times, a sign that Florida State has lived with some inconsistency through the air. For Miami, the challenge is obvious: keep Daniels from turning broken plays into explosive runs, because his ability to damage defenses on the ground has become the trait that changes the entire game plan.
