A flurry of rumors hit Miami’s football orbit this week, and CanesInSight insider Danny Hernandez stepped in Friday morning to sort through the noise around three Hurricanes players.
The biggest question centered on Cam Vaughn, the West Virginia transfer wide receiver. The online word was that he was done with the team, which would make him the third roster departure before the regular season.

Another rumor that spread quickly involved running back Jordan Lyle, after a Facebook account posted a mugshot photo of him in a jumpsuit. Hernandez said an incident did happen, but not at the start of fall camp, and the program has been aware of it while the case works through the legal system. Fox Sports South Florida reporter Andy Slater reported that Lyle was arrested on a warrant and faces felony charges of fleeing from police and reckless driving.
Miami also released a statement on the matter: “We are aware of an incident involving student-athlete Jordan Lyle,” the statement said. “As due legal process runs its course, we will have no further comment at this time.“
Lyle has still been around the program, practicing at the Coral Gables campus since spring. The 20-year-old junior is trying to bounce back after an injury-filled season in which he played in six games, rushed 35 times for 108 yards, and scored a touchdown against Stanford.
The third item Hernandez addressed involved cornerback Ja’Boree Antoine. The rumor making the rounds claimed he had suffered an injury and would miss the season. Hernandez did not name Antoine directly, but called the story “misreported” and “half-truth.”
Antoine had injury issues in high school, including significant injuries in his junior and senior years at Westgate High School. But last season, the former four-star recruit was on the field in 12 games, including all four College Football Playoff games. He finished with seven tackles, five solo, two assists, and one pass broken up, and he is expected to take on a bigger role in Miami’s secondary this year.
After reaching the National Championship game, Miami is aiming to stay in the title mix but get a different ending. The Hurricanes are favored to win the Atlantic Coast Conference, get back to the College Football Playoffs, and push for another long run.
