A'mir Sears is moving up a class and moving up the timeline on his college decision.
The Miami Columbus five-star athlete, ranked as the top football recruit in the class of 2028, told 247Sports he is reclassifying to 2027 and has set a commitment date. After what will now be his senior season, the expectation is that he will be positioned to enroll early in December at the school he chooses.
Sears also said he is ready to make his college call. His finalists have already been narrowed to a smaller group, though that list will be revealed right before he announces Friday at 5 p.m. ET on the .
His most recent trimmed list included Auburn, Florida, LSU, Miami, Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon, Syracuse and Texas A&M.
On the field, Sears has already put together a résumé that matches the hype. As a sophomore, he finished with 61 tackles, 11 pass breakups, three interceptions and a forced fumble on defense, while also hauling in 42 catches for 942 yards and 11 touchdowns.
The scouting report paints the picture of a true difference-maker. Sears is described as a “Best-kid-in-the-park type of athlete who plays with an edge.”
The report says he can be used in multiple roles, though cornerback is a position worth a serious look. It also notes that he “Swallows up assignments with his length and wiry strength.
