Miami Adds Veteran Safety With FSU and Oregon State Ties

Miami shores up its secondary with a familiar face, adding former blue-chip safety Conrad Hussey for a potential impact run in 2026.

The Miami Hurricanes just added another piece to their secondary puzzle, and it’s a name that South Florida football fans will recognize.

Conrad Hussey, a former standout at Fort Lauderdale’s St. Thomas Aquinas, is coming back home. After stints at Florida State and Oregon State, the safety is set to suit up for the Hurricanes, bringing with him a blend of experience, athleticism, and a chip on his shoulder.

Hussey’s college journey has been anything but linear. He saw action in 19 games over two seasons with Florida State, logging 403 defensive snaps.

In 2024, he earned three starts-against SMU, Boston College, and Memphis-and made the most of his opportunities. Over his time in Tallahassee, he totaled 40 tackles, one interception, three pass breakups, and forced two fumbles.

That stat line doesn’t just speak to his versatility-it shows he’s capable of making plays at every level of the defense.

After his time with the Seminoles, Hussey transferred to Oregon State, where he reunited with Rod Chance, a Fort Lauderdale native and part of the Beavers’ coaching staff. Though his time in Corvallis was brief-just 47 snaps across three appearances-it added another layer to his development. Now, with two years of eligibility remaining, Hussey is looking to make a real impact in Coral Gables.

What makes this move intriguing for Miami is the fit. Hussey steps into a safety room that includes Zechariah Poyser, Bryce Fitzgerald, Omar Thornton, and Dylan Day.

It’s a group with talent, but also one that’s still sorting out its pecking order. Hussey’s experience in two Power Five programs gives him a leg up, and his familiarity with the South Florida football culture-having come out of one of the most respected high school programs in the country-means he knows what it takes to compete at a high level.

For Miami, this is more than just a roster addition. It’s a potential culture boost.

Hussey brings a blend of toughness and football IQ that could elevate the entire unit. And for Hussey, this is a chance to hit reset and prove he belongs on the big stage.

Keep an eye on this one. There’s a real opportunity here for both player and program.
