The Miami Hurricanes have scored a big win with the commitment of Key West defensive lineman Josh Johnson. Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 265 pounds, Johnson chose Miami over Florida after attending the Hurricanes’ first spring practice.
Johnson expressed that the recruiting approach by Miami's staff made a significant impact. “No one has shown as much love as they have,” he shared. Beyond football, Johnson emphasized the importance of feeling at home on campus, noting that Miami offers him that comfort and connection to his family.
A major factor in his decision was the opportunity to develop under the guidance of NFL veterans Jason Taylor and Damione Lewis. “I’m absolutely ecstatic,” Johnson said. “Learning from guys with many years in the NFL is special, especially since my plan is to eventually play in the league.”
With Johnson's commitment, Miami now boasts six recruits, placing them at No. 14 in the national rankings. He also highlighted the vibrant fan culture, stating, “Even in Key West, it’s all about The U. I’m sure in Miami, it’s the same.”
Johnson's athletic prowess extends beyond the gridiron, as he excelled on both sides of the ball and was a state qualifier in shot put. This multifaceted athlete is set to bring his talents to Miami, where the future looks bright for both him and the Hurricanes.
