Josh Johnson And Sherrod Gourdine Commit To Miami After What Happened

Miami Hurricanes bolster future roster with key commitments from top defensive talents, Johnson and Gourdine, as they gear up for championship pursuits.

The energy was electric in Coral Gables as the Hurricanes kicked off their spring practice with a bang, welcoming commitments from two standout recruits. Defensive lineman Josh Johnson and defensive back Sherrod Gourdine have pledged to join Coach Cristobal's squad, adding to Miami's all-Florida 2027 class.

Both recruits shared their enthusiasm for the Hurricanes' coaching staff. Gourdine expressed his admiration, saying, "The coaches, they love their kids.

This is the best position for me." Johnson echoed this sentiment, highlighting his connection with Coach Cristobal and defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman.

"These guys are very similar to me," Johnson noted. "They love to fish and they love football … Nothing better than that."

Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing over 270 pounds, Johnson hails from Key West and is Miami’s first defensive line commit for the class. A lifelong Hurricanes fan, he’s eager to return to his hometown, surrounded by fellow Canes supporters.

Gourdine, a product of McArthur, is thrilled about the development opportunities under the Miami staff. "The way Keionte Scott has killed it, I think I can be the next," he said, praising the defensive backs' ability to pursue and shut down the offense.

The coaching staff sees Gourdine as a standout, ranking his film among the best in South Florida. He's also excited about reuniting with McArthur teammate Jaylyn Jones at Miami. "That’s my brother, we go way back, so why not team up at Miami," Gourdine remarked with a grin.

Jones shared in the excitement, emphasizing the efforts he made to recruit Gourdine. "He knows I’ve been in his ear all the time, telling him ‘you gotta stay at the crib, might as well come play with me’," Jones said.

As for what the Hurricanes can expect from this dynamic duo, Jones put it plainly: "Miami's getting two dogs that wanna come in and compete every day. We're trying to win the national championship with the 'U'."
