Jojo Trader, the former Chaminade-Madonna standout and one of the most highly touted wide receiver prospects in his class, is officially entering the transfer portal. The move marks another notable departure from the Hurricanes’ wide receiver room, as Trader becomes the fourth UM wideout to explore other opportunities since the end of the regular season, joining Chance Robinson, Ny Carr, and Ray Ray Joseph.
For Miami, it’s a significant shift in a position group that’s seen both promise and growing pains over the past two seasons. And for Trader, it’s a chance to reset and potentially find a system that better fits his skill set.
Coming out of high school, Trader was the kind of recruit coaches build game plans around. A four-star prospect and the No. 9 receiver in his class, he was a household name in South Florida football circles. His résumé included back-to-back first-team All-County honors and a spot on the Sun Sentinel’s prestigious Super 11 list - accolades that underscored both his talent and his impact at Chaminade-Madonna.
But at Miami, that high school dominance didn’t immediately translate to a starring role. Trader saw limited action as a freshman, logging just 99 snaps over seven games in 2024.
This past season, he saw a bump in playing time - 223 snaps across 12 games - and finished with 13 catches for 178 yards and a touchdown. Solid numbers, but not quite the breakout many had anticipated.
Still, the tools are there. Trader’s blend of speed, route-running polish, and natural playmaking ability made him a top-tier recruit for a reason. And with two years of college experience under his belt, he’ll likely draw serious interest from programs looking to bolster their receiver corps with a player who’s already shown he can compete at the Power Five level.
For Miami, the departure adds to a growing list of offseason changes. With multiple receivers now in the portal, the Hurricanes will have to lean on incoming talent and internal development to rebuild depth and production at the position.
As for Trader, a new chapter awaits - and with it, a fresh opportunity to turn all that high school promise into college production.
