Hurricanes Extend Winning Streak With Dominant Finish to Non-Conference Play

With balanced scoring and stifling defense, Miami womens basketball wrapped up non-conference play on a high note ahead of their ACC road stretch.

Miami women’s basketball wrapped up its non-conference schedule in dominant fashion on Sunday, cruising past Stetson with a 77-45 win that was as much about defensive grit as it was offensive execution.

The Hurricanes are now riding a three-game win streak, improving to 9-4 on the season and 1-1 in ACC play. This game served as their final tune-up before diving headfirst into the heart of conference competition-and they made sure to send a message.

From the opening tip, Miami brought energy. Freshman guard Ahnay Adams set the tone early, slicing through the defense for back-to-back layups to start the first quarter.

Stetson managed to punch back briefly, even grabbing a slim lead, but Miami never let the deficit grow beyond four points. By the end of the first quarter, it was knotted up at 13 apiece-setting the stage for what would soon become a one-sided affair.

The second quarter is where the Hurricanes started to separate themselves. They turned defense into offense, capitalizing on Stetson’s mistakes and turning turnovers into points.

A quick 20-16 lead ballooned into a 34-23 halftime advantage, thanks to a 12-2 run to close the half. Miami shot a solid 42% from the field and 40% from three in the first two quarters, but it was their ability to convert defensive stops into transition opportunities that really stood out.

Then came the third quarter-and that’s where Miami slammed the door shut. The Hurricanes’ defense was suffocating, holding Stetson to just three points in the first five minutes of the period.

On the other end, Miami was crisp and efficient, moving the ball well (four assists in the quarter) and controlling the glass (nine rebounds). They shot 50% from the field in the third and stretched the lead to 20 points with over three minutes left in the frame.

By the time the quarter ended, it was 55-31, and the outcome was no longer in doubt.

The fourth quarter was all about maintaining control-and Miami did exactly that. They stayed composed, kept the defensive pressure high, and coasted to the finish line with a 32-point margin.

Four Hurricanes finished in double figures, showcasing the team’s offensive balance. Gal Raviv and Ra Shaya Kyle led the way with 14 points each, while Amarachi Kimpson and Ahnay Adams both added 13. It wasn’t Miami’s most efficient night from deep (just 23% from three), but they more than made up for it with a strong all-around effort.

Defensively, this was one of Miami’s most complete performances of the season. They racked up 13 steals, pulled down 41 rebounds, and kept their turnovers to just eight-a number that reflects the kind of discipline the coaching staff has been preaching all year.

With ACC play now fully on deck, Miami will look to carry this momentum into a tough road matchup against Virginia Tech on January 1st in Blacksburg. If Sunday’s performance was any indication, the Hurricanes are hitting their stride at just the right time.
