ESPN’s latest 2027 SC Next 100 update put four Miami-connected prospects in the national top 10, and the network paired each one with an NBA comparison that says plenty about how highly these recruits are viewed.
The highest-rated of the group is Beckham Black, who landed at No. 2 overall. ESPN matched the 6-foot-3 point guard with Andrew Nembhard, pointing to his pace, poise, playmaking feel and winning impact.
Miami is among the schools that have offered Black, along with Arkansas, Duke, Texas, North Carolina, Kentucky, Virginia, USC and others. In the 247Sports Composite, he checks in as the No. 3 overall prospect and the No. 1 point guard.
Malachi Jordan comes in at No. 6 and drew a Devin Vassell comparison from ESPN. The outlet highlighted Jordan’s three-level scoring, shot-making approach, rebounding and offensive polish.
The 6-foot-7 forward plays at Prolific Prep in Fort Lauderdale, meaning he’ll be in South Florida for his senior season. Miami is in the mix with Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Alabama, Kansas, UConn, BYU, Indiana and others.
At No. 8 is Lewis Uvwo, a 6-foot-10 center who ESPN compared to Moussa Diabate. His defensive range, rebounding, rim protection and motor stood out, along with a 7-foot-7 wingspan and a 9-foot-3 standing reach. Uvwo also attends Prolific Prep, and Miami is battling Duke, UCLA, BYU, Baylor, Texas, Providence, Michigan, Illinois, Arkansas, Kentucky, Georgia and others for his commitment.
Rounding out the Miami-linked group is Cayden Daughtry at No. 10.
ESPN’s comparison for him was Trae Young, with the writeup citing his deep range, quick release, off-the-dribble scoring and ability to break down defenses. Daughtry put up 26.5 points, 5.2 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 2.7 steals last season while leading Calvary Christian to a second straight Class 3A state title.
MaxPreps also named him its National Junior of the Year and Florida High School Basketball Player of the Year. His recruitment includes Miami, Michigan, Iowa, UConn, Florida State, Florida, USC, Providence, Tennessee, Louisville, Texas, LSU and Kentucky.

Mario Cristobal Still Has Miami In The Fight For A Major Flip
Miamis push for Myson Johnson-Cook has not gone away just because he is already committed to Auburn. The four-star running back remains on Miamis board as the Hurricanes keep working through the fall, a sign that Mario Cristobals staff still sees room to add another impact piece to a recruiting class that already carries real momentum.
Johnson-Cook is not the only flip Miami is chasing, either. The Hurricanes are also still in the mix for five-star edge rusher DJ Jacobs out of Ohio State, which keeps the late-stage recruiting picture very much alive as Miami tries to turn a strong class into something even more formidable. Jai Lucas Just Made Miami Basketball Matter Again
When Jai Lucas took over after Miamis entire roster had already entered the transfer portal, the assignment looked less like a coaching hire than a rebuild from the ground up. Instead, he quickly gave the Hurricanes a new identity, piecing together a roster with impact transfers and high school talent and steering a program that had just stumbled through a 7-24 season back into the national conversation.
The offseason has only sharpened that momentum, with Miami continuing to add pieces that fit a team now expected to matter in the ACC again. Lucas has already shown he can sell a vision and turn it into wins, and the next question is how far this version of the Hurricanes can go now that the foundation looks much sturdier than anyone could have reasonably expected a year ago. Miami Suddenly Looks Poised For A Massive Edge Recruiting Win
Miami has spent the early part of the 2028 cycle leaning hard into pass-rusher recruiting, and the Hurricanes have a name near the top of the board in Asher Ghioto. The five-star edge rusher from Jacksonville is already viewed as one of the best at his position nationally, and Miami is working to make itself a serious option alongside Clemson and Texas A&M.
Mario Cristobals staff has made no secret of the emphasis, with defensive ends coach Jason Taylor helping sell the programs recent NFL draft success as part of the pitch. Miami also has the kind of current pass-rush talent it can point to when talking to elite defenders, and Ghiotos recruitment is starting to look like one of the more important early tests of how well that message is landing.
