It's recruiting season in college football, and the Miami Hurricanes are making waves. Head coach Mario Cristobal is no stranger to the recruiting game, and he's setting his sights on a major target: 4-star Georgia commit Donte Wright. Wright recently visited Coral Gables, and it seems Miami has left a strong impression.
Wright, a standout cornerback, has expressed high regard for the Hurricanes. In a recent interview, he mentioned that Miami has met his high expectations and considers them a "big contender" in his recruitment journey. This development might have Georgia's Kirby Smart paying close attention.
Recruiting is never over until the ink dries on signing day, and Wright, committed to Georgia since June 30, is still in play. Miami, along with Oregon and others, is working hard to sway him. Wright's impressive credentials-ranked as a five-star recruit, the No. 2 cornerback in the nation, and the No. 10 player overall for the 2027 class-make him a hot commodity.
With 23 offers already on the table, and more likely to come, Wright's decision is far from finalized. Georgia initially celebrated landing him, but with the Early Signing Period not until December, there's plenty of time for Miami to make its case. Cristobal and his team are planning an official visit for Wright on June 5, and they're pulling out all the stops to secure his commitment.
While Wright is currently committed to Georgia, Miami's persistent efforts could very well lead to a change. The Hurricanes are determined to make this recruitment battle one to watch.
