The Miami Hurricanes put on an offensive clinic on Sunday, with Daniel Cuvet leading the charge in a staggering 30-5 victory over Lafayette. This win not only completed a four-game sweep but also showcased the Hurricanes' explosive potential.
Cuvet was nothing short of spectacular, launching two home runs in a jaw-dropping 12-run fourth inning. But he wasn't alone in the power display.
Derek Williams, Alex Sosa, and Brylan West also went deep in that inning, contributing to Miami's nine homers on the day. This tied a school record set back in 1979, as the team racked up 25 hits and scored the second-most runs in its history, only surpassed by a 33-run game in 2000.
With this victory, Miami improved to 9-0, having outscored Lafayette 73-14 across the series, and belted an impressive 15 home runs. Freshman sensation Dylan Dubovik continued his hot start, going 5 for 6 with two doubles, two stolen bases, and two RBIs. His early season stats are eye-popping: 11 for 13 with three home runs and 11 RBIs in just six games.
Jailen Watkins added to the fireworks with a grand slam and seven RBIs, while Cuvet and West drove in six and five runs, respectively. Gabriel Milano, Bennett Gary, and Alonzo Alvarez also joined the home run parade.
The fourth inning was a highlight reel, starting with Cuvet's solo shot and capped by West's three-run blast. In total, 17 batters went to the plate, setting a new record with five home runs in a single inning. Watkins sealed the scoring with his grand slam in the eighth.
Earlier in the season, the Hurricanes also put up 27 runs against Lehigh, tying for the fourth-most in a game. Miami's starter, Tate DeRias, pitched 3 1/3 innings, allowing just one run to secure his second win of the season.
Next up, Miami takes their show on the road for the first time this year, facing FAU on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Fans can catch the action on FAUSports.com. This Hurricanes lineup is proving to be a force, and it'll be exciting to see if they can keep up this torrid pace.
