Ole Miss is getting another College GameDay spotlight, and this one comes with a chance to keep its perfect home record intact.
ESPN’s pregame show is headed back to Oxford on Saturday for the Rebels’ matchup with LSU, giving Ole Miss its seventh all-time GameDay appearance and its third time hosting the show from campus. The Rebels were a late arrival to the party - GameDay debuted in 1993, but Ole Miss did not land its first visit until 2014.
That first one was worth the wait.
On Oct. 4, 2014, No.
11 Ole Miss hosted No. 3 Alabama in a game that turned into one of the defining moments of that season.
The Rebels pulled out a 23-17 win, the crowd stormed the field at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, and the celebration spilled beyond the stadium as goal posts eventually made their way through Oxford. Katy Perry also partied at Funky’s after the game.
Ole Miss didn’t have to wait long for another shot. Three weeks later, GameDay was in Baton Rouge for the Rebels’ meeting with No.
24 LSU, and the outcome flipped on them. Ranked No. 3 at the time, Ole Miss dropped a 10-7 decision for its first loss of the season.
The next year brought another memorable road trip. On Sept.
19, 2015, No. 15 Ole Miss went into Tuscaloosa and beat No.
2 Alabama, 43-37. It was the Rebels’ second win ever in Tuscaloosa and gave them back-to-back victories over Alabama for the first time in program history.
After that, GameDay stayed away from Oxford for six years before returning in 2021. Ole Miss made the most of that home setting again, beating No.
11 Texas A&M, 29-19, on Nov. 13.
The most recent GameDay appearances have been less friendly to the Rebels. Both came in Athens, where No.
10 Ole Miss lost 52-17 to No. 2 Georgia in 2023 and then returned two years later for a 43-35 defeat.
That 2025 loss was Ole Miss’ only regular-season setback, though the Rebels later got revenge by beating Georgia in the Sugar Bowl, which doubled as a CFP quarterfinal game.
Saturday’s meeting brings a rare ranking matchup to Oxford. LSU is seventh and Ole Miss is eighth in the AP Top 25, and it is the first time since 1962 that both teams have been ranked in the AP top 10 for the same game. The teams were both in the top 10 of the Coaches Poll in 2024, when LSU beat Ole Miss in Baton Rouge.
