Former Miami quarterback and No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward spent the past few days working with five-star Miami commit Israel Abrams at a passing camp put on by Overtime and Under Armour.
Abrams was one of six high school quarterbacks selected for the event, joining Troy commit Makyree Cross, Georgia commit Jayden Wade, 2028 five-star Donald Tabron, 2028 three-star Knox Kiffin, the son of LSU head coach Lane Kiffin, and 2028 four-star Kingston Preyear.
The workouts themselves were kept mostly under wraps, so the details of Ward’s coaching weren’t widely available. But Overtime, which operates as a social media brand, posted a pair of interviews that offered a glimpse into the camp, including Ward’s thoughts on Miami receiver Malachi Toney.
“I wish I played with him at Miami," Ward said. "He enrolled when I was heading out, so he practiced with us, and let me tell you, that boy is different. As soon as I was done watching tape, I saw Mali (Malachi Toney) sitting in his locker watching film, and he would ask me questions.”
Overtime also caught Abrams making a bold prediction for Ward’s second NFL season.
“I’m going to say over 4,000 passing yards, a cool 35-40 touchdowns, and a 68-70% completion percentage,” Abrams said.
Abrams has packed plenty into his offseason. He played at OT7 with Midwest Boom, where he posted 2,534 passing yards, the seventh-most in the league, and 54 passing touchdowns, which ranked eighth.
He also took part in the Elite 11 finals, where 20 of the nation’s top quarterbacks competed. Nebraska commit Trae Taylor won MVP, but Abrams still came away with a strong reputation among those in attendance as one of the event’s top quarterbacks.
Now the focus shifts to Montini Catholic High School in Illinois, where Abrams is set for his senior season before heading to Coral Gables. Since becoming the starter as a sophomore, he has never lost a game, going 24-0, and he’ll try to keep that streak rolling in his final year of high school football.
Abrams is part of Miami’s 2027 recruiting class, which Rivals currently ranks third in the country.

Damari Brown Faces A Defining Miami Season Fans Have Waited For
Damari Brown is heading into his fourth year at Miami with the kind of opportunity that has been easy to talk about and harder for him to fully seize. The cornerback has dealt with injuries that have slowed his progress, but he is now projected to be part of the Hurricanes rotation in the secondary as the program pushes toward another run at a national title.
For Brown, the season also carries a family connection that makes his place in the program feel bigger than one depth chart. His father, Selwyn Brown, was part of Miamis secondary during a championship era, and Damari is trying to carve out his own version of that legacy while finally getting the extended run on the field that fans have been waiting to see. Ryan Rodriguez Suddenly Carries Huge Stakes For Miami's Title Push
Ryan Rodriguez has spent most of his Miami career on the margins, a South Florida native and Columbus High product whose path has been slowed by injuries and limited playing time. Now, with the Hurricanes reshaping an offensive line that lost multiple starters to the NFL, his name is suddenly at the center of the conversation, and not just because of where he grew up.
The opening is there, but so is the pressure. Miami needs stability in the middle as it pushes toward a national championship run, and Rodriguez is projected to take on the starting center role, handling the kind of responsibility that can quietly define an offense. For a player whose college journey has been anything but smooth, the next step carries real stakes for both his future and the Hurricanes' title hopes. [Read more 🡒]
Israel Abrams Could Be Mario Cristobals Defining Miami Recruiting Win
A visit to Coral Gables can change a lot for a program, but landing Israel Abrams felt like the kind of swing that can alter the shape of an entire recruiting class. The five-star quarterback, one of the top prospects in the country, committed to Miamis 2027 class after that trip, giving Mario Cristobal and his staff a centerpiece recruit with the kind of national profile that tends to draw attention well beyond one position group.
Miami has already seen the payoff ripple outward, with Abrams pledge helping create momentum for other high-profile targets and adding to a broader quarterback plan that stretches into future classes. The Hurricanes have been building a case that their recruiting pitch is resonating at the highest level, and Abrams decision may end up being the one they point to as the moment the strategy truly took hold.
