The Golden State Warriors are once again active in the trade market, and as the February 5 deadline looms, their focus appears to be zeroing in on a familiar face: Andrew Wiggins. League chatter is heating up around the possibility of a reunion between Wiggins and Golden State, and there’s a growing sense that the fit-both on and off the court-still makes a lot of sense.
According to multiple reports, the Warriors have been doing their due diligence across the league, exploring upgrades at the forward position. While names like DeMar DeRozan have surfaced, Wiggins stands out not just for his talent, but for his history with the franchise. He was a key piece of the 2022 title run, offering elite perimeter defense and timely scoring that helped balance a roster built around Steph Curry’s gravity and Draymond Green’s defensive IQ.
Any realistic trade scenario that brings Wiggins back to the Bay would likely involve parting with rotational players like Moses Moody or Buddy Hield to make the salaries work. That’s the math of the modern NBA.
But from a chemistry standpoint, the move would be seamless. Head coach Steve Kerr has never been shy about his admiration for Wiggins, often praising his professionalism and two-way impact.
The respect runs both ways, and that mutual trust could be the foundation for a potential return.
That said, Wiggins isn’t the only name being floated in connection to the Warriors’ ambitious plans. Golden State has also reportedly had exploratory conversations about landing Giannis Antetokounmpo-a swing-for-the-fences move that would redefine the Western Conference landscape.
While those talks are still in the very early stages, it’s clear the Warriors are thinking big. There’s even some speculation that the front office is trying to find a way to land both Wiggins and Antetokounmpo, although that kind of blockbuster would require serious maneuvering and likely cost a significant chunk of the team’s young core.
The Miami Heat, meanwhile, are playing their own cards carefully. Wiggins, now in Miami after being dealt in a multi-team trade that included Jimmy Butler, isn’t currently on the block. The Heat are reportedly focused on crafting a trade package for Antetokounmpo themselves, with Milwaukee holding firm on a high asking price-young talent like Tyler Herro would almost certainly have to be part of any deal.
Still, Wiggins’ connection to Golden State hasn’t faded. His recent return to Chase Center stirred up plenty of emotion, both for the fans and for Wiggins himself.
From 2020 to 2025, he was a fixture in the Warriors’ lineup, and during that 2022 championship run, there were nights when his two-way dominance nearly rivaled the Finals MVP. That kind of impact doesn’t just disappear-and neither does the bond between a player and a franchise that helped him reach his peak.
Since landing in Miami, Wiggins has stayed professional, embracing the Heat’s culture while continuing to play his game. But as the trade deadline approaches, his name remains front and center in Golden State’s search for a move that keeps them in the hunt. The Warriors know their championship window is still open-but only if they make the right moves.
Wiggins might just be the move that makes the most sense.
